They've already dominated YouTube - now some of the top vloggers in the world are taking over BBC Radio 1 in a brand new weekly show. Zoella, Tyler Oakley and TomSka are some of the stars joining the station. Speaking to Newsbeat, Joe Sugg, aka Thatcherjoe, said he and his flatmate Caspar Lee, who is also appearing, are both "really excited" to join Radio 1. "I've always wanted to go in to radio. When I was younger I used to make my own little radio shows," he said. "I used to have an old tape player and press record. It's always been an interest of mine."
Tyler Oakley is beyond annoying. I love TomSka though, don't know who the other person is :v:
Ugh more fucking vloggers, it's bad enough with Dan and Phil.

TomSka is more well-known for his animation and comedy, but still. Vloggers are almost entirely just radio presenters but with video, though? The successful ones tend to have a lot of personality in their voices and actions, half of which is pretty much required to be a radio host.
Radio 1 have always been the up-to-date station, it's hardly surprising that they're hiring people from what is pretty much the most current form of media.
Well this is really disheartening for anyone that's been wanting to get into radio, I mean, If I'd have know that instead of doing a student radio show for 3/4 years and winning the odd award here and there I could have just done an annoying vlog for a few years I'd have taken up that instead.
zoella is one of the most boring people on the planet from the few videos I've seen of her, why is she popular
tyler oakley is an annoying cunt

[sp]also he's tom from eddsworld[/sp]
Radio 1 has gone so far downhill in the past 4 years.

That's not my point, my point is that people like myself who have spent years training with radio equipment and learning how to be a good presenter aren't even being considered over people who have no knowledge of the area, hell these positions weren't advertised or posted on the Beebs jobsite they just grabbed a fist full of names because they are popular at the moment.
The Beeb has always been good at avoiding that; where as other stations would hire some ex-big brother contestant or some recently retired bubblegum pop singer they'd hire specialist dj's, people with experience or winners of the student radio awards that they sponsor now they are just grabbing who ever fits for the time being.
Sure they may be good on Youtube but radio is a very very different entity all together, and from what I hear Dan and Phil's show on the radio get's poor listening figures, viewing figures when they do a video stream are huge but listening -the most crucial part- not so much.

Radio 6 is where it's at.

You just have to dig deeper, it's usually great past 7pm with all the electro/house stuff they do.
I listen to the radio one breakfast show on the way to work most days, and I usually HATE Nick Grimshaw, but he's okay on the breakfast show, he kinda fits the role. He's an annoying chucklefuck for everything else.
Scott Mills is kind of boring imo, I prefer my morning stuff to be energetic and wake me up.
oh calm down this is fine. They're so popular because they're capable of talking to a massive audience and making it seem informal, like talking to a friend. Radio is the perfect medium for that.

Also TomSka is cool, fuck everyone else though. He's the only one who puts effort into his stuff as an ACTUAL content creator. The partner channel system is the worst thing to happen to social media for a long time, just reams of bullshit clickbait.
YogsCast is a prime example of throwing integrity out the window for delicious youtube $$$.

They used to have consistent quality, now it's all just gone a bit shit. Their nightly shows are the only thing going for them.

They had a pretty good reshuffle to appeal to the younger crowd a while ago, but they're slipping back into bad habits.
The Skream + Benga show was pretty good, always look forward to the Essential mixes too.

i ain't paid attention to any of their vlogging shit but i'd just like to say tyler oakley lookin like somebody impregnated a cotton candy machine and the baby came out ugly

I think he actually did some kind of media degree in University, so it isn't that far off what he was doing otherwise - that being media production.
Radio 1 has been terrible for years now anyway, and adding YouTube "personalities" to the mix only perpetuates this. It's pretty much for 12-16 year old girls now.
BBC Radio 2 or BBC Sussex is best radio.
