We’ve gotten a statement from Hindu stateman and leader in Interfaith Relations from the Indian Association of Northern Nevada (based in Reno) Rajan Zed, who claims that Hindus at large are very upset with Atlus’ depiction of Lord Krishna (featured above) in Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final.
Zed said his appearance in the game “trivializes a highly revered Hindu deity,” and is urging Sega Sammy Holdings CEO Hajime Satomi to not include the god in the game, which is set to release on February 10th in Japan.
Zed, President of Universal Society of Hinduism, said that Krishna wearing a fedora is unacceptable
The censorship discussion is just weird now.
Personally I think all deities, regardless of cultures, should be open to "trivialization" and reinterpretation. After all, they're constructs of folklore, not actual cosmic entities capable of doing anything brash towards their critics.

I don't disagree but this is the part where we all get smitten
All this complaining about how Westerner's depictions of of holy deities are offensive, meanwhile South Park made the Christian God look like this:

To be devil's avocado, Jesus is still depicted as fairly saintly, at least in his looks.
I mean the Judeo-Christian god is often a literal antagonist in SMT so...
I mean when it comes to all the stuff represented in the series, a fedora is far from picking the shortest straw.

His looks ain't a ripe enough avocado when you watch southpark
Oh thats badass, IV was fucking great. Didn't know they were making a sequel to it.
m'reincarnation
"Hey look guys, I know that game is only coming out in Japan right now and a good majority of us aren't going to play it but listen us over here in Nevada really aren't happy with what you're doing.

They already are open to trivialization.
But consumers also have the right to complain about the content of a product. If it's damaging enough, you might get the publisher/producer to concede and change the product - because they don't want to lose out on potential customers.
It's as much a consumer's right to boycott or complain or protest against the content of a product as it is for the producer to create whatever product they want. OP calling this "censorship" is a joke - it's just a consumer complaint. They're not obligated to do shit - they can ignore the complaint and nothing will happen.

Western media makes fun of everyone, it's just how we operate.

Jesus is on the right but 'God' is on the left.

I agree. The fact that people regularly openly mock the Judeo-Christian god and Jesus says positive things about our culture and christians.

Just for context, the game series has always used religious and mythological deities from the east and west.
People who were never gonna buy the game anyway complain about the game they were never gonna buy anyway, and the world keeps turning.
I don't really think that you can have SMT as a series without offending at least someone. It's basically like if you took pokemon, and instead of capturing cartoonish monsters you negotiate with and recruit mythological figures (which are all unilaterally called demons for... Reasons which aren't really clear and probably not particularly well thought out anyways) from basically every form of human spirituality imaginable to battle alongside you.
People who play these games have been wondering for years how long it will take for some portion of the particularly fervent christian community in the US to blow a gasket over it because you can befriend demons and kill angels and shit.
Having a major deity wearing a Fedora? That has to be one of the most offensive SMT designs so far.
Oh wait.

Not to mention that the main villain is YHVH himself and depending on which route you go in the second game he can be the final boss. You can literally beat up God.
I'm sure SMT's Hindu Market will really hurt their sales
Afaik, Hindus generally don't care that much unless it was done to intentionally insult them which is not the case here. His claims that "Hindus at large are very upset" is questionable to say the least.

I dont recall hindus making a fuss when this came out.
Let's let the deity decide if she wants to wear a fedora or not. If she doesn't want to, she can stop it from happening, she is a deity after all.

Did these same guys at least complain when FF13 depicted Shiva as a slutty motorcycle?

Going by a lot of the results in Google image search, you could easily be mistaken.
Well his name does mean the all-attractive :v:
I actually thought this was legit until I read

The guy in question is a fucking quack.
Will you please stop crying censorship at every little thing
Rajan Zed is a spiritual leader, one who seems to just barely grasp the basic concept of videogames. His website has an e-mail apology as news. His organizations don't even have Wikipedia pages. His "universal" organization apparently only operates in Nevada. Almost all of the news involving him have to do with being outraged at things in name of all hindus.
He's either an overly sensitive leader, or a guy who lives off creating controversy where there is none. Considering all of his posts are in a website he named after himself while the organization's website has little to no content, I'm leaning towards the latter.
At best, you're giving attention to a guy that deserves little. At worst, you're downplaying real cases of censorship and looking for an excuse to get upset over nothing (ironically, much like Rajan)

That's because the more worthless something is, the more insecure it becomes, and these tiny little nobody cares religions keeps on crying over freedom of speech.

tbh, mara is a demon, and considering what he represents, it ain't that weird, it's kinda clever actually.
