Hundreds of women in the German city were subjected to sexual assaults on New Year's Eve, 2015.
Jess Phillips, Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley, said it was akin to "heckling" on Birmingham's Broad Street.
She was speaking during a debate about how many refugees should be allowed into Britain, in which an audience member suggested events in Cologne - said to have been carried out by migrants - proved mass immigration did not work.
She told the audience: "A very similar situation to what happened in Cologne could be describing Broad Street in Birmingham every week, where women are baited and heckled."

The comments also angered Mike Olley, who looks after Broad Street in his role as manager of the Westside Business Improvement District.
He said: "It's preposterous, ill-informed nonsense actually. It's a throwaway line from someone who hasn't got as much of a grasp as people - particularly myself - who work in the area."

I get what she's saying about women being harassed on their nights out, and I agree that it's a bad thing, but comparing that to almost 500 sexual assaults and 3 rapes in one night is downright fucking stupid and extremely insensitive to the victims.
Look, I get it; there's still sexism in normal European society. I'm okay with this idea.
But for fuck's sake stop trying to stumble over eachother in a vague, insulting and downright baffling pattern of 'We're going to shift the blame because addressing the actual issues means we have to be fucking wrong.'

I was falling asleep, this woke me up, what the hell?

um, go back to sleep?
I bet she wouldn't be saying that if she was one of the victims.

And force them to not be sexists that assault and rape women for not covering up?
The left betrays all of their values when it comes to refugees/migrants. As a lefty it kills me.

Thank you, this will save me a lot of time and headaches.
Bad thing is okay because of less bad thing.
Combatting rape culture is a big goal for feminists, but it's puzzling to me how they in the light of refugee crisis generally seem to be dodging and shifting blame like crazy when it comes to talking about the issue of rape culture in northern African countries, where it's verifiably much much worse.
She's stupid and like a few of our MPs don't know shit what actually goes on.
She's known for speaking her mind and I just wish she wouldn't.
Drunk men calling a dressed up woman hot isn't very similar to a premeditated organized gang rape wtf
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

One of the funniest things I've seen online was a couple Reddit threads on feminist boards when FEMEN protesters stormed the stage of a Muslim conference a few months ago. They tore each other apart trying to decide whether it was racist or not to criticize the Muslims for their actions (they had beaten the women and literally lifted them and threw them out of the room).
