Known as Project Spartan initially, Microsoft is revealing today that the company will use the Microsoft Edge name for its new browser in Windows 10. The Edge naming won’t surprise many as it’s the same moniker given to the new rendering engine (EdgeHTML) that Microsoft is using for its Windows 10 browser. While Microsoft Edge is the successor to Internet Explorer, Microsoft will keep its ageing browser around for enterprise customers. Microsoft Edge is designed to be basic and minimalist for the future, and early previews include new features like digital ink annotation, Cortana integration, and a built-in reading list. Microsoft Edge will be the default browser in Windows 10, and the one that most consumers will use to browse the web in Microsoft’s next operating system
Microsoft Edge? It's a browser. Might as well have called it something equally as stupid like Microsoft Extreme. Spartan was cool.
The edge cuts so deep.
Not bad, when you consider the other popular browser names
Not bad, when you consider the other popular browser names
Safari and Opera are the only silly browser names I know.
Chrome is very similar to edge in aesthetic and meaning
Safari and Opera are the only silly browser names I know.
Safari isn't that silly in my opinion, seeing as how a safari was an expedition (or exploration), and you use it to explore the internet. Opera is a bit silly, but if you think about it as "You go to the opera for entertainment", and the internet is a source of entertainment (for things like youtube or netflix).
The name of the web browser is literally the least exciting thing Microsoft has shown today.
I don't think "edge" is a good name for something that's meant to be reliable, comfortable and productive.

Microsoft Edgy
I think Spartan was a better name.
Spartan sort of implies bare minimum, miltary supply type stuff. I bet they're worried most people using it won't associate it with Halo or the Spartans but instead spartan bedrooms and think it's is a stripped down, rough and ready style browser. The naming department is taking no risks after the Xbone.
What is going to happen to Internet Explorer-tan now? [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/bc/Aizawa_Inori.jpg[/t]
I don't think "edge" is a good name for something that's meant to be reliable, comfortable and productive.
They're probably going for "cutting edge".
They're probably going for "cutting edge".
Yeah but it makes me think of software that keeps me on the edge of my seat, tense, expecting it to crash any second again.
When I think safari I think animals and stuff, not trolls and kids.
I'm confused, trolls and kids ARE animals.
I hope the browser supports custom themes so I can have a razor blade with blood for the top bar.
It could always be hacked in.
More like Microsoft Chrome.
What is going to happen to Internet Explorer-tan now? [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/bc/Aizawa_Inori.jpg[/t]
Rotting in a pit, hopefully?
