As Ramadan begins, more than 100 hunger-strikers in Guantánamo Bay continue their protest. More than 40 of them are being force-fed. A leaked document sets out the military instructions, or standard operating procedure, for force-feeding detainees.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/video/2013/jul/08/mos-def-force-fed-guantanamo-bay-video
Mos def's best acting gig since his impression of mumbles in 16 blocks : )
Looks absolutely barbaric and traumatizing, that shit should be illegal to be forced onto someone who doesn't consent.
What really gets me is where I find it hard to understand how the tube makes a turn in the sinuses and goes down the throat passage. When he mentions it poking him in the brain, I find it really disturbing because I imagine there must be a lot of resistance required to bend this tube to even point in the right direction. I can easily see this as a very damaging procedure if done incorrectly. Although it does make me wonder how those breathing tubes are installed.

Must be so shitty for them, they're still human beings too, even after what crimes they may or may not have committed. I'd rather be dead than go through that if I was them, to be honest.
Watching a grown man who volounteered for this under controlled conditions break down into tears before it's even finished is says an awful lot about what goes on in gitmo.

I can only imagine that it would be equally uncomfortable for it to go down the gullet instead. The trouble is when they put the tube in, your brain freaks and tells you to resist it like anything and that's half the reason it hurts, so long as you relax it's only uncomfortable for a short time. Taking the tube out is equally as painful though.
Can't even say I wouldn't do the same yikes.
This is a grown man volunteering to do this, knowing the procedure beforehand and he BEGS them to stop! What the hell Gitmo?
It's the look on his face at 3:03 which is fucking spine chilling. Can't even imagine how bad it is at gitmo.

Innocent before proven guilty.
The thumbnail alone gives me chills.
You can't even say that because they haven't been accused of anything. Innocent before proven guilty.
I think if you're in Gitmo for whatever reason, the staff there probably doesn't think too highly of you.
Well, it's either this, or ending the hunger strike. It's not like all inmates are fed like this, every day.
I don't quite understand why they held him down, was it just to prevent his body from freaking out and potentially hurting himself if he tried yanking the tube out?
Holy fuck, mos def is one of my favorite rappers. This is insane.
title made me think mos def was actually in guantanamo bay
I don't quite understand why they held him down, was it just to prevent his body from freaking out and potentially hurting himself if he tried yanking the tube out?
Possibly a combination of that and to add a layer of authenticity to the experience.
I don't quite understand why they held him down, was it just to prevent his body from freaking out and potentially hurting himself if he tried yanking the tube out?
partly, but i was also thinking maybe they had made some agreement beforehand that was like "if i start struggling, hold me down like they would in the real procedure". maybe he thought he'd resist but that he'd be able to go through with it in the end and that this would add to the drama but it turned out to be way worse than that
This is why I will never get a colono or endoscopy done. Having a long tube forced into you is horrible.
This is why I will never get a colono or endoscopy done. Having a long tube forced into you is horrible.
Except with an endoscopy your throat gets numbed and if your intestinal tract is fine a colonoscopy should be fairly painless and if it's inflamed you can get given gas and air to relieve the pain, I've never had an endoscopy but the worst part about the colonoscopy was that you're not allowed to eat a great deal for a couple of days and they give you a laxative to clear you out and having a group of strangers seeing your dick feels embarrassing.
He most definitely did not enjoy that.
I've seen old japanese ladies take these like a champ, take the video with a grain of salt.
I've seen old japanese ladies take these like a champ, take the video with a grain of salt.
That's some twisted porn you're watching bro.
I've seen old japanese ladies take these like a champ, take the video with a grain of salt.
What the hell were you watching?
I cried a little watching him cry since I know how he feels. I've had to do this a few times aswell with force due to me almost starving to death by my disease etc. Atleast mine didn't have to be changed a few times a day. I feel so shitty looking at this.
So long as you don't get an erection what's the problem with your man meat being on show?
It's just a bit weird that's all, I mean in my usual day to day life I don't usually have a group of 5 people able to see my dick, with 2 of them being attractive women.
What the hell were you watching?
I work at a hospital, these are called "nasogastric" tubes. You put them in someone who can't eat, has a risk of choking, or is on a special diet.
Jesus christ, this is awful. Is there any other way to supply nutrition without being so invasive? Can an IV supply enough nutrients to be a viable alternative? It says a lot that the inmates at Guantanamo would prefer to starve to death over continue to suffer these brutal conditions. I can't believe the place hasn't been shut down yet.
