[QUOTE]President Vladimir Putin has overseen military drills on countering nuclear strike. The planned drills come ahead of the May 9 celebrations dedicated to victory in World War II.
"We are carrying out tests of the readiness of the Russian armed forces. It was announced last November. The exercises will involve all branches of the armed forces across the country," Putin told reporters at the Defense Ministry.
Modern challenges and threats to the country’s national security demand that the army and the fleet are maintained in readiness for quick and effective retaliation in any conditions, the Russian Defense Minister and army general Sergey Shoigu told Putin in a report.
During the drills, it was demonstrated how the missile corps, artillery, aviation and anti-aircraft defenses can be used – for instance, to destroy troops on the ground or to counter massive missile, aviation or nuclear strikes by an enemy.
Plus, it was shown how to inflict a launch-through-attack strike with nuclear missiles.
The training exercises, which are due to include ground troops and artillery as well as the air force, were held during a summit of heads of state of a security bloc made up of former Soviet states.

Wait, one happened?
Because if not, I'd like to remind Comrade Putin that no plan survives first contact with the enemy.
Or a nuke.
"Russia is spending millions of dollars on a pretty firework show."
A test run of an anti-nuclear missile standard rocket barrage which will coincidentally land in Kiev.
This is what north korea imagines they are doing when they dump old missiles into the ocean. Is it alright to be scared now?
RT's sensationalism knows no bounds.
So they want to shoot down nuclear missiles with Grads? Or did I get something wrong? Sorry, I didn't watch the whole video, I've seen Russian dickwavery a million times
This kind of behaviour is detrimental to the concepts of MAD, even if mad is a bit dated
Rocket artillery is so impressive looking
Sensationalism at its finest. The United States does nuclear drills with its armed forces but you don't see that making the news.
That video is amazing.
I think the US is past the point of even considering using nukes in any situation. The tradeoff would be terrible.

That and it's nearly victory day, going to be seeing a lot more of this kind of stuff. They hold dozens of drills every year just like this, but due to current events everyone's acting as if its some kind of escalation and filling their diapers.

Most countries sans crazies like NK are.
Lots of really cool shit in that video, MLRSs are intimidating as hell. And Tu-95s are really cool too, the only turbo-prop bomber in use today.
