• Satellite TV making humans invisible to aliens on other planets

Satellite television and the digital revolution is making humanity more and more invisible to inquisitive aliens on other planets, the world's leading ET hunter has said. That might be good news for anyone who fears an ''Independence Day'' – style invasion by little green men. But it is also likely to make the search for extraterrestrial intelligence by Earthly scientists harder, Dr Frank Drake believes. Dr Drake, who founded the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) organization in the US 50 years ago, said the digital age was effectively gagging the Earth by cutting the transmission of TV and radio signals into space. more: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/7073574/Satellite-TV-making-humans-invisible-to-aliens-on-other-planets.html another alien thread to ponder
Fucking satellite TV.
Theres plenty of old content bouncing around out there in space. We're spamming some poor civilization to death.
Well, I guess that's one of the reasons why we haven't been visited yet: we've been silent with our satellite TV's.
Which means the same happenings will still occur, that 1. There will be no aliens visiting earth 2. There will be no aliens listening to earth

It makes sense now, in the past when we had no advanced tech, aliens visited us and built pyramids, but now we gag them and they don't come anymore :v:
There's been lots of talk about aliens lately. Wonder why.
I blame scientology.
I blame scientology.
I blame all religions.
Theres plenty of old content bouncing around out there in space. Who cares, we need to find another planet which we could live on.
Eh, there's still close to a century's worth of radio waves racing out into the galaxy at light speed.
I Think we all know its the aliens fault we arent discovered.. There they are having their sexy parties.. Where are we? Stumbling about looking to get laid and find aliens to get laid by!
Do we reallly want aliens to chill with us? I mean, we befriend them and then they hanging around too much, being clingy, coming over drunk and then finally stealing out moon or some shit when we don't want them anymore.
They need to pay their license :cop:
We are spys to them >.<
I hope everyone realizes that even the most directed signals turn into background noise after about 10 to 15 light years. In other words, even if aliens intercepted a signal from Earth, and had the means to decode and decipher it, it would just be noise. In fact, they would detect it as such and not give it a second thought.

Didn't we already learn that after so long any radio signal is reduced to static anyways?
Don't worry, they will sense the signals from the sattelites instead and bomb us for thinking we're trying to hide.
"Xrfghjs, have you detected any intelligent life on this planet?" "No sir, but we have received transmissions telling of a mysterious technology known as OxiClean. It appears the rumours are true; it's so easy, even our kids can do laundry."
If they're advanced enough to get here, I'm pretty certain they'll have ways and means of detecting us that don't rely on analogue radio signals
If they're advanced enough to get here, I'm pretty certain they'll have ways and means of detecting us that don't rely on analogue radio signals
Yeah, but their technology would be completely different to ours. Therefore they would have no special ways of detecting us through our technology.
I'm pretty sure if aliens developed radio technology, they would be far surpassing us now, and they would probably know how to discover a planet using artificial satellites as a means of communication. EDIT: Damn it, rate me clocks.
You can still tell an artificial signal from a natural one.
Not really. Like I said, it becomes near impossible to discern the origin of radio waves greater than 10 to 15 light years.
Of course they're going to show up here. They'll wanna know what happened to Ross and Rachel
Know what would be epic? If some small, hidden civilization on like, Mars, with old 5s-era TV-like devices picks up all our signals. They don't get their own TV, they get to see ours, and it's like a big movie to them. On one hand they get to see all the documentaries and news updates, and on the other, they see sitcoms and reality shows. Can you imagine being in the 50s and watching Alien TV programs? It would be interesting if like, as war broke out on Earth over ideology during the cold war if the aliens decided to take sides and adopt our ideologies and war over it, too. That's be cool. Wow. I should write like a book.
