Helping a friend build a computer after he dumped $700 into a Asus laptop with a Intel EXTREME Graphics chip..... No preferences or bias besides just keeping it a Single GPU.
EDIT
He wants a case now so add that in, maybe even abit over the budget.

Pretty sure they wouldn't want a laptop if starving and desperately needed food at the moment lol.
Well, you need a case to throw everything in :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119215
Lets not forget about that vidya card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150521
Of course you need a DVD drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106276
Lets throw in a sizable SSID for fast booting: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227738
Don't forget Win7: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986
A nice processor to utilize all that power: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727
That 1TB drive for all your porn: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185
650 watts of powah: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005
That comes to $712, drop in a nice mobo and 4GB of RAM, and you're good to go. Somebody else will have to recommend those, though. I'm out of the loop with them.

You can drop the Windows 7, I got a spare copy for him.
Coolio, then we can beef up the vidya card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125385
Or an Nvidia equal, if you prefer them.
and then, if someone could come in here and let me know how these 2 work,
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277
and motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131646
Should come to $816
Get one of these 6870s. They're a bit better than the non-ti 560s:

HAF 912, 2500K/G43 Combo, 4GB Ripjaws 1333, XFX 6950 1GB, Enermax Naxn 750w, Spinpoint F3
$840. You can drop the 6950 to a 6870 or the 750w PSU to a ~650w if you don't want to go overbudget.
