Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Trailer #1: Trailer #2: If you haven't seen the first two then I would highly suggest you watch them. Maybe you think they are to "gimmicky" or "twilight-esque" (people have told me this), but I can honestly say they are both truly good movie, and Catching Fire went above and beyond to deliver a movie experience I haven't had in a VERY long time. It's emotional, it's genuine, and it's full of suspense. If someone wants to make a thread banner then just send it my way. Again sorry if there is already a thread on this, a search for "catching fire" brought up a lot of different threads on different sub forums, and honestly if there is no discussion thread on the front page about a movie this good 2 days after it's out. Then I think that warrants a new thread regardless. Share your thoughts and remember to use SP tags for sensitive information.
I've never read the books so I can't compare but I thought the actual games weren't brutal enough. As for the main protagonist I don't like how she's supposed to keep a lot of her thoughts to herself. She comes off very uninteresting, which is a shame because Lawrence is a great actress. I can see the books going in depth to how she feels but the movie just doesn't do that. In the end it's not a bad movie but I think it could offer more. I haven't seen the second movie yet but since I'm probably going to be invited to it I'll see it soon.
I agree, she was kind of two dimensional in the first one. The second movie really develops her character more.
The second movie is very, very good. I mean if you didnt really like the first one thats ok, watch the second one. It explains everything you need to know, with good development and story.
While the first movie was pretty good, Catching Fire was absolutely fucking great. They kept to the book so well in this one, almost everything was done perfectly. I'm pretty sure I'm going to see it again at least two more times this month.
I think I might be in love with Jennifer Lawrence

The movie was accurate to the book.
I don't like the series overall because I think it was poorly-handled but I liked the second book much more than the other two. I wasn't a fan of the first movie because it was all shaky and not nearly as brutal as it should have/could have been but I'll watch this one just to see how they do.

I didn't like the first movie that much but I thought Catching Fire was great. Really enjoyed it. I think I'm going to read the books now because I'm usually a "books over the movies" type person.
it's a shame this one's the better one, the only good book in the series was the first one
it's a shame this one's the better one, the only good book in the series was the first one
You can't have a series if you only read the first book. In my opinion this movie (which was true to the book) really helped advance the series. I felt like the first movie was to "immature" if you will. I felt it to be gimmicky and to much "twilight-y" in terms of advertising and presentation. This second movie felt alot more mature, and grown up. Improved in more ways than one.
Read the whole series and watched the first movie. Won 2 tickets to see it tomorrow, should be at least enjoyable I guess v:v:v
If you haven't seen the first two then I would highly suggest you watch them.
I thought this was the second one?
I really didn't like the first movie. Strange how this is now vying for the number one spot on my top ten movies of the year list.
I really recommend giving the second movie a try before giving up on the series.
I enjoyed this film, but it felt a bit forced at time. [sp]Like, Katniss just seemed really gormless about everything ever, and there were times when the Government were being cartoonishly evil, like when her Stylist was beaten up and arrested. And the fog, that was just poorly done in my opinion.[/sp] Very much enjoyed it though.
Does this one have horrific shaky cam like the first did?

I mean out of the two, I'd prefer the better made movie to be the first one as it was the most enjoyable and the best out of the series
The real enemy is the cinematographer from the first movie. Hopefully the camerawork in the second is better.

i saw this a few days ago, can someone explain why [sp]president snow appeared to cough up blood into his champagne glass out of nowhere and have it not mentioned ever again[/sp]

The reason he has these sores is something to do with he poisoned people in order to become president and had to eat some of the food himself as not to arouse suspicion.[/sp] I'm probably remembering it wrong but I think it's something along those lines.

Good movie. But the ending was just so abrupt and ugh. I was expecting more I suppose, it just didn't feel right ending it there. (Yes I'm aware that's how the book ends it). Props to them for being true to the book though. It was interesting for the most part, and it's intense moments were intense, but I feel like it's been a bit overhyped. Good in all aspects, but not that memorable honestly. Pretty good, but not in my top movies list.
The second movie is very, very good. I mean if you didnt really like the first one thats ok, watch the second one. I watched the first one, and I went out to see the second one last night, and I wasn't particularly blown away. That's not to say I didn't have a good time, because I did, but as far as movie experiences go it was pretty average. As someone whose never read the books, the actors could have all simultaneously broken character and screamed "just read the books it'll make more sense if you do" and I wouldn't have gotten the message any louder than I already had. I'm not gonna write an essay on it but I just wanted to throw in my two cents and say that I found the movie to be far from perfect. It was, however, an enjoyable one.
I think I'll like this movie, but after reading the third book I don't have much hopes for the third film
I think I'll like this movie, but after reading the third book I don't have much hopes for the third film
Am I the only one who liked the third book far better than the other two?
Am I the only one who liked the third book far better than the other two?
Yeah, you are. Most of the third book barely even made sense [editline]30th November 2013[/editline]
I agree, she was kind of two dimensional in the first one. The third book was just[sp]Katniss doing something, getting hurt, then recovering and being mopey. Repeat.[/sp]It was the worst in the series and just poop overall. At least it had the balls to end the way it did, though it still[sp]repeated the sequence above.[/sp]Also the series (books and movies) would have been fine without the whole Team Peeta vs. Teem Gale bullshit. It's a dumb way of creating drama in my opinion. Anyway I'll just check out the movie when it hits DVD. But good to know the consensus is that it's better than the first.
