• Trying to switch between PS3 and PC with one monitor

So I have my computer and my* PS3 plugged into the same monitor. I always have the computer on, but when I turn the PS3 on, I can switch the screen to show the PS3, but I can't switch the screen back until the PS3 is off. When I turn the PS3 off, it just switches back to the PC view automatically, but I have to switch it from PC to PS3 manually. I'm using Windows 7 and my monitor is a ProLite E2209HDS. I use the windows + P shortcut to switch to the PS3 but it doesn't work when trying to switch back.
I'd assume that's because the "windows + p" is a PC function. When your PC is using the monitor it has control over it. Hence it's allowed to pass control to the PS3. But when the PS3 takes control the PC loses total control and hence can't switch the monitor back to itself.
Your best bet would be to get a switch box. They make ones that are for hdmi. That way, all you have to do is press a button on said box or remote if the model has one, and it would allow you to switch between pc and ps3.
can't you just plug hdmi into one of its inputs from your ps3 and dvi from your pc and use the input switcher on your monitor ? I tried searching for your monitor but it's too odd ball so i couldnt find any specs
Yeah sorry about not replying. I went through all my monitor settings and found that I could switch inputs in there, but it's annoying if I'm switching between them and I leave it on HDMI and then turn the PS3 off, I don't seem to be able to turn it back to DVI without turning on the PS3 first. I think I'll get a switch box eventually, thanks for the advice.
