Martin Bashir has resigned from MSNBC following weeks of controversy over his incendiary comments about Sarah Palin, he announced in an email posted by Mediaite on Wednesday. "Upon further reflection, and after meeting with the president of MSNBC, I have tendered my resignation," the email read in part. "It is my sincere hope that all of my colleagues, at this special network, will be allowed to focus on the issues that matter without the distraction of myself or my ill-judged comments."
Source I mean, what he said WAS pretty awful and all, but it wasn't as bad as what Sarah Palin did in the first place. Shame that he had to resign over it. For those of you who don't know,
Hardly a journalist, the way he acts.
shit man, what he said was brutally honest, and while it was inappropriate for the air, nobody should loose their career because of ignorant insensative idiots like palin or bachman espeacially since if they said this crap on the air they would have gotten praised for it or at worse, laughed at
Source I mean, what he said WAS pretty awful and all, but it wasn't as bad as what Sarah Palin did in the first place. Shame that he had to resign over it. For those of you who don't know,
Not only is his tirade absolutely disgusting, being almost purely consisting of ad hominem attacks, the actual content of his attack is idiotic. Saying that one thing is like another is not the same thing as saying one thing is exactly the same as another. So pointing out how being severely indebted to someone isn't exactly like slavery has nothing to do with disproving her point. As a note, I'm not a fan of Palin, but I also don't like seeing people be unfairly attacked.
looks like he took a shit on his career.
I agree with him, his program is not unbiased, MSNBC is not unbiased, I see no reason why this sort of commentary should not be allowed on a commentary program. It's an opinion program, he gave his opinion.
she can shit in my mouth
I mean, what he said WAS pretty awful and all, but it wasn't as bad as what Sarah Palin did in the first place.
Palin made a stupid ass comparison. Bashir suggested assault was a responsible response. He's a fucking idiot who let his petty emotions guide the discussion in a poor direction.
she can shit in my mouth
No one is shitting in anyone's mouth!
Didn't really see that one coming, then again what he was discussing was hardly news, it was clearly a directed personal attack and nothing else. "This just in, Sarah Palin is still a stupid fuckwit, surprise!" He should have just pointed out the clear misuse of the term Slavery and left it at that, not draw it out into a story I could make a pop-up book about.
Hardly a journalist, the way he acts.
MSNBC hires satarists and opinionators, not journalists. Then there's Al Sharpton, but really I look at MSNBC on the same level as Fox News, they just aren't really good sources of just news without bias undertones.
No one is shitting in anyone's mouth!
Too late.
at least he has the integrity to quit in the first place
Honestly, I know Fox is biased, but I've never heard of anything like this from one of their hosts.
Well they did have the whole terrorist fist jab thing
Too late.
Can I get in on this as well, or am I too late?
Honestly, I know Fox is biased, but I've never heard of anything like this from one of their hosts.
you're not paying attention then.
you're not paying attention then.
Can you think of a comparable example? [editline]4th December 2013[/editline]
Well they did have the whole terrorist fist jab thing
After reading up on it it's clear that the thing you're referencing isn't even close to being comparable. The host was obviously joking and not actually saying Obama was doing anything related to terrorists. If anything he was poking fun at the people who are vehemently against Obama and how they exaggerate everything he does in a negative way. The actual quote: "A fist bump? A pound? A terrorist fist jab? The gesture everyone seems to interpret differently. We'll show you some interesting body communication and find out what it really says." - E. D. Hill on the show America's Pulse The following segment on body communication never mentioned the phrase (or idea) again.
It's a shame that this story has overshadowed the fact that, hey, comparing the national debt to slavery as a crass political tactic actually is super fucking racist.
It's a shame that this story has overshadowed the fact that, hey, comparing the national debt to slavery as a crass political tactic actually is super fucking racist.
I get if you disagree, but how the hell is it racist? Being a slave isn't unique to one group of people and in fact, debt related slavery is more related to whites than blacks. Large amounts of debt have been connected with slavery for much of human history. If you couldn't pay a debt you worked as a slave instead. It seems her point, although very exaggerated, is that we will essentially be living to simply pay our debts if we continue to accrue them like we are now, and this type of existence is essentially a form of slavery. I don't agree with her, but not for any racism/sexism/etc reason.
Liberal media.
Sarah Palin is a terrible, terrible person, but Martin should've been more careful in berating her
Why? i mean i get it wasn't the best thing to voice it over tv but why the hell not? i'm sorry but we've had to listen to the shit she spouts over tv more than once so please forgive me if i don't mind someone putting her in her place.
please forgive me if i don't mind someone putting her in her place.
what place? he didn't put her anywhere, he just went on some crazy childish tirade of ad hominem. that isn't how you put someone like palin in her 'place'
Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes (not Mathews) are both excellent journalists
Chuck Todd isn't too bad.
I've no love for MSNBC nor Sarah Palin but the comments weren't so far out there. I wouldn't have wanted him to resign over those alone. I guess he has a history of saying stupid shit but there are people on Fox and CNN who have made a career out of that so whatever.
I wish he wasn't so apologetic and saying things like "now they'll be better off without me". He should've stood by his comments and then decided to leave.
I guess he has a history of saying stupid shit but there are people on Fox and CNN who have made a career out of that so whatever.
People keep saying this, but do you have an actual example? I've never heard anything comparable to this from FOX (I'm focusing on FOX because they have the fairly consistent reputation of being biased, even their own opinion hosts admit it)
I don' get the issue really everybody was thinking the same thing when watching it.
People keep saying this, but do you have an actual example?
People keep saying this, but do you have an actual example? I've never heard anything comparable to this from FOX (I'm focusing on FOX because they have the fairly consistent reputation of being biased, even their own opinion hosts admit it)
"Stupid shit" is pretty broad so I'll just list some hosts and things they have said that were pretty out there. Glenn Beck Bill O'Reilly Eric Bolling Bob Beckel (hilariously casted as The Liberal on The Five) The Five racism in general Compare any of these to what Martin Bashir said The problem isn't Fox News blatant status as the propaganda piece for the Republican party and fringe right of this country, it's the fact that they host people on their network that hold terrible opinions and voice them out loud. If Martin Bashir can be suspended for what he said, Glenn Beck, Eric Bolling, Bob Beckel, and Greg Gutfield shouldn't even be allowed within 50 miles of an establishment of journalism. Of course this discrepancy just illustrates the difference between Fox News and MSNBC. Where as Fox revels in it's extremism, MSNBC will fire or force people to resign that say anything remotely controversial because they are utterly afraid of conservative backlash where as Fox just doesn't give a shit. Glenn Beck alone set a new low for how blatantly offensive you are allowed to be while running a one hour timeslot on a "news" station. For the record I don't care one way or another if Bashir should have been suspended or resigned. In a world of genuine journalistic integrity I feel like he should have worded his point better but he's hardly to blame for slinging mud in what is essentially a desolate muddy kindergarten playground of 24-hour news cycle networks where a great amount of the mud flying through the air is being hurled by Fox. Your complaints specifically about his "attack" being full of ad hominem is amusing considering Fox News has made a business out of it for the past 20 years.
The difference being, none of them suggested an act of violence against the politician they were bitching about.
