OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
The Babadook or The Changeling (the George C. Scott movie not the Angelina Jolie one).
I didnt find The Babadook scary, I loved the story but it wouldn't call it a horror.
A film that for what ever reason I cannot watch, is Sinister. The way it is filmed and the music played and the eerie story just make it unwatchable for me, scares the shit outa me.

It really depends what type of scare youre going for, if you want Jumpscare then go for newer films like Insidious, Conjuring, The Possession.
The Babadook wasn't scary at all.

The Others is pretty spooky but it would probably feel a bit cliché if you watched it now.
Ringu is pretty good.
I liked The Conjuration
or The Quiet Ones, that was another good creepy film
I'm looking for a genuinely scary movie aswell, but I want it to be actually really scary instead of just relying on gore and an over extreme amount of blood, as that's not scary but just nasty.
Something with ghosts or something would be fun.
not entirely scary
but poltergeist is a great film
I still think The Ring has a very tense atmosphere or is that too old/known.
Ju-On was sort of spooky, and with no gore.
The original Pulse (kairo) was great, what little I remember of it. Don't bother with the American remake.
I got scared as shit by Event Horizon when I was a kid, but then yeah, I was like 10, so
Your mileage may vary
Still a good movie though

not the remake
i sat through it the whole time waiting for it to get scary
for ghost movies i'd reccomend the sixth sense
im pretty sure almost everyone has seen it but if you haven't, do watch.

The Woman in Black, original 80s version of course, is my go to ghost story. Creepy with one hell of a jump scare. You can usually find it on Youtube.
For a really creepy movie, I recommend Ju-on or the original Evil Dead. For a ghost story, definitely The Sixth Sense. For a gory scary film, It's either the Evil Dead remake(both gory and disturbing imo) or Cabin in the Woods.
Well fear is relative. One person might feel scared of ghosts but not someone else. Suggesting something scary to someone is always hard
