According to Mass Live, Ann Musser, 41, was arrested at her home on an outstanding arrest warrant issued by Holyoke District Court for failing to appear in court. The court appearance was scheduled last September because Musser had failed to comply with repeated requests from the city of Holyoke in June for her to renew the license for Pumpkin, her 14-year-old family dog. Musser admits failing to pay the $5 renewal fee was an oversight on her part, but she had a lot on her mind at the time. The main thing was the diagnosis for advanced ovarian cancer and having to undergo major surgery. “Your priorities are a little different when you are fighting death,” said her husband, Ozzie Ercan. “It’s easy to lose track of how important those little pieces of paper are.” Holyoke City Clerk Brenna McGee explained that, technically, Musser was not arrested for failing to renew her dog license, but for her failure to appear before a judge. “It has nothing to do with the dog license. It has nothing to do with a city ordinance,” McGee said. By failing to appear, she said, Musser was in violation of the warrant.
Yeah she failed to show up in front of a judge but its a 5$ license. You would think that the court system is always swamped with real cases.
“It has nothing to do with the dog license. It has nothing to do with a city ordinance,” McGee said. When laws start being harmful rather than helpful, they're a problem and should be reworked.
God damn this is ridiculous. When will we learn that rules HAVE to be able to bend to function correctly. There is no need to arrest this person for this at all, it's mad that they stand by this law saying "She didn't appear so it's her fault, she is breaking the law." Does no one stop, take a step back, and see how mad this is?

Everything has fees and taxes and needs a license which has more fees and taxes and monetary requirements and you can't even sell fucking lemonade as a kid anymore because you need a $500 license. Because people are greedy and want money. There's no reason to need to pay for a license to own a dog unless you live in government housing MAYBE

How can anybody look at this horrible, rigid, totally unworkable system and say that this makes sense MEANWHILE some fat heir raped his daughter on several occasions but he can afford to pay the court enough to get away with it, god bless america
