Hey, I was wondering like for 2 years already, in I am Legend film, was whole world infected? Or was it only that part of town ? I thought so because they basically blew up all bridges not to let someone through. SO on other side there was a normal world? If so then why didn't he just escape to it? Or whats the problem for zombies to teh SWIM over that lake?
:iiam: It's probably gonna be explained in the sequel, there wasn't much info about the scale of the infection in the first one. Or maybe there was, but I forgot.
They say in the film there are only a few people left, and they set up a base or something. If there were still people on the mainland why do you think he would stay in Manhatton?

To stop the infection from spreading. It started in Manhatton, they tried to stop any possible carriers from taking it out, however someone who had the virus obviously managed to get out and infect everyone else.
They blew up the bridges to try and stop it, but it's airborne, so it jumped the gap.

Also, the dark seekers are just a split-species of human, they are benign and intelligent, but they go after Robert because he kidnaps one of the dark seeker's wife.

I live there, and if there was an outbreak, this place'd be hell, so I see no reason to not take out the bridges. And considering that no rescue was sent out to Manhattan, or any expeditionary force, or any radio traffic or sign of life, it's likely the outbreak was worldwide. 2)And as for zombies swimming through the 'lake'...the Hudson River is almost at freezing point most of the year. It's also deep, heavily polluted and dramatically rough. I doubt many zombies would make it. (Note that the Brooklyn Bridge is over the East River, which isn't much better than the Hudson, which leads to the mainland.)
They ain't zombies, they are a sub-species of human.
Still, Zombies is as close of a description of them as one can get, per their action in the movie. Besides, it feels more...right, to call them zombies. [editline]05:08PM[/editline]
Don't think zombies give a fuck about hygiene
No, they don't, but when the river has so much crap in it, they'd probably die. And as said before, they are a subspecies of human, so odds are the crap in the river would affect them too.
in the book, which is a lot better by the way, to my understanding the whole world was infected also they're more like vampires than zombies since they are actually intelligent
They're vampires not zombies.
By effectively destroying the bridges they cannot relocate and go after remaining survivors
Considering how shit those scanners are, it's inevitable that a bunch of infected would have jumped the barrier.
Considering how shit those scanners are, it's inevitable that a bunch of infected would have jumped the barrier.
Yeah that bit really bugged me about the film "Hey, lady you're infected go join the infected que" "Wait no! That's my bitch, scan her again!" "Okay, oh!, I guess she's fine now, I definatley see no reason to be cautious and still put her in the infected line, no, let's just put you over here with all the people who are 'definatley' not sick"
Which means that random scanner soldiers could of killed the entire world?
The scene where hes trying to get his family onto the heli and they scan his wife and she shows up infected, and then they scan her again and she shows up clean was intended to show how ineffective and rushed the scanning procedure was. no doubt some people got through who were infected.
butterflies are not infected  Which leads to bigger question, If the bridges were blown up...how did the girl get onto (then off) New York?

I'm i the only one who can only refer to this film as "I AM LEG-END"? Blame my dad.
I understood that the reason he stayed behind in the first place was because it had 'jumped' off the island. In other words, if it is 'out' in the world, you might as well stay in the hot zone trying for a cure/vaccine/etc. There is nothing to be gained by leaving, since it is everywhere now. He sent his family out to be safe from the vampires, not from the virus. If the virus is ONLY in Manhattan, then it makes sense to get off the island first, and then work on the cure in some lab somewhere safe.
I think it spread through the whole world, I loved this movie so much, one of my favorite movies, I wish Will Smiths character was [sp]still alive[/sp]
I think it was the whole world and that little town @ the end was the only place not infected

There were a series of comics released prior to the film that depicted South America and China being infected to name a few as well as various places in the United States. It is not a town, it is a City. It isn't a lake, it's the Hudson River, it sometimes freezes over in the winter more or less so it may be possible to cross. But this is doubtful as most would freeze to death if they didn't seek shelter in the winter. The bridges were blown as a last ditch effort to quarantine the city, stop the flow of refugees and other various reasons. Did anything ever come of the sequel that was rumoured? I'm probably in a minority in liking the film but I'd like to see more.
I think it spread through the whole world, I loved this movie so much, one of my favorite movies, I wish Will Smiths character was [sp]still alive[/sp]
He would be if they would've used the alternative ending.
Yeah, I saw no reason for him to do that, he could have tossed the grenade and went through that little door easily.

They may be undead but they are not zombies. They're closer to vampires than zombies.
