http://news.sky.com/home/showbiz-news/article/16048752
Sesame Street bosses say Bert and Ernie will not get married, despite almost 9,000 people signing a petition calling for the same-sex puppets to make things official. Thousands logged onto to the Facebook page www.change.org and became friends of a special "Bert and Ernie Get Married" page in support of the petition. The Facebook thread quickly descended into a debate on the pros and cons of having a gay character on the children's programme. Campaigners argued that the marriage of the characters from the long-running TV show would help to put an end to bullying and suicides of gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual young people. "We are not asking that Sesame Street do anything crude or disrespectful by allowing Bert and Ernie to marry," the petition read. "It can be done in a tasteful way." However, Sesame Workshop said that as puppets, Bert and Ernie do not have sexual preferences. "Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach pre-schoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves. "Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics, they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation." Sesame Street is seen in either the US or local TV versions in more than 140 nations and has won multiple awards for its educational content for pre-schoolers. Bert, who is fascinated by pigeons and gets easily upset, and oval-headed, free spirit Ernie, have lived together at 123 Sesame Street since 1969.
Err... isn't Sesame Street for toddlers? I just don't get having an episode about gay marriage for a little kid's show.

I'm not a huge fan of Family Guy, but I always loved this sketch
Sesame Workshop said that as puppets, Bert and Ernie do not have sexual preferences.
Thank god! I thought my plethora of puppets would penetrate will I was sleeping, because they're all gay. Thanks Sesame Street, my fears are gone!
Err... isn't Sesame Street for toddlers? I just don't get having an episode about gay marriage for a little kid's show.
It might make them grow up thinking gay marriage is cool Then they'll turn socialist and marry a horse
This doesn't mean they can escape from the dreaded Rule 34...
Ow, my childhood. I know this will teach kids to accept homosexuals, But ow, my childhood.
Now that was a stupid petition, really having a gay marriage one a show aimed at toddlers. People do you have your heads up your asses because Ernie and Bert only live together that doesn't make them gay.
Ummm...they're puppets. And don't they sleep in freakin' bunk beds?
Ummm...they're puppets. And don't they sleep in freakin' bunk beds?
No, 2 beds next to each other.
Thank god! I thought my plethora of puppets would penetrate will I was sleeping, because they're all gay. Thanks Sesame Street, my fears are gone!
They have no preference. PREFERENCE. Prepare your anus.
Err... isn't Sesame Street for toddlers? I just don't get having an episode about gay marriage for a little kid's show.
There's plenty of heterosexual marriage in toddler shows.
Aren't Bert and Ernie brothers?
Never been stated as far as I know.
-snip-
Err... isn't Sesame Street for toddlers? I just don't get having an episode about gay marriage for a little kid's show.
why could shows for children include a straight marriage(about every fairy tale movie or show ever) but not a gay marriage?
It's because of the copious amount of soccer moms I bet. "WHY DID YOU DO THAT ITS UNCHRISTIAN AND SESAME STREET WAS SO GOOD FOR CHRISTIAN VALUES"
Nigeria's version of Sesame Street has a character with HIV, to attempt to remove the stigma around that disease which gets kids bullied because they were born with it
No, 2 beds next to each other.
used to be 1 bed. they're pretty much all but explicitly gay lovers and that is just the best thing
If you were gay, that'd be okay.
have the writer from dragon age 2 write it "i wanted you but i was so afraid i" "you don't have to run anymore" "oh bert hold me!"
Why not just keep sexual preference out of kids shows.
Err... isn't Sesame Street for toddlers? I just don't get having an episode about gay marriage for a little kid's show.
They introduced a character that had aids so kids could learn that you can't catch it from people just by being around them and stuff maybe having a gay marriage in the show would be good too
BrokeBert Mountain Coming Summer 2012.
Bert likes Ernie's "Rubber Ducky"
Why not just keep sexual preference out of kids shows.
because whitewashing any references to heterosexual preferences in all shows aimed at children certainly isn't going to happen
Weren't they originally supposed to be brothers?
What the actual fuck. Living together doesn't make people gay.
