The chest was full of treasures. Among the finds: a newspaper from the day the capsule was buried (April 22, 1913); a dress; a telephone; a flag; a pen used by President William McKinley; a camera; and a pair of women's shoes that still had their shine. Perhaps most remarkable was a phonograph record featuring voices of citizens from the era.
this is amazing
imagine timecapsules of today with terabytes of information on data storages buried deep within the ground to be discovered a hundred years from now with technology as alien as computers are to 1913's.
We didn't get to hear the voices :(

Also, what the fuck is a pewdipie"
The problem with that is its hard enough to interpret data on 30 year old hardware on modern computers, never mind a century old. Somehow I doubt anything will still use SATA or USB in 2113.
The difference is, they'll probably be able to reconstruct a 21st century-era computer and look at the data that way. Who knows, they'll probably be able to 3D print one or something.
with all the documentation about current computers available on the interwobble, I don't think it would be much of an issue.
link rot is a massive problem [editline]24th April 2013[/editline] the people making this capsule didn't know that they were only a year away from witnessing a serbian nationalist set the world on fire
I really want to listen to that recording.
They should scan that record with IRENE and upload the audio somewhere
I like how everything is wrapped in paper. Today, stuff would be in plastic and I don't know about the future.
The problem with that is its hard enough to interpret data on 30 year old hardware on modern computers, never mind a century old. Somehow I doubt anything will still use SATA or USB in 2113.
USB 3.0x10^6
I wish everyone put their stuff in a box before their death and dig it down under
Hey my church didnt get no news about its 100 year old time capsule.
USB 3.0x10^6
UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUSATRON 3000
There'd be more than hard drives, there'd also be physical items, such as dragon dildos.
The problem with that is its hard enough to interpret data on 30 year old hardware on modern computers, never mind a century old. Somehow I doubt anything will still use SATA or USB in 2113.
Then just bury the hardware to watch it with the data.
I would make a time capsule and fill it with official looking documents with pages from the SCP Foundation, then put it in the ground somewhere near a old building. :v:
I like how everything is wrapped in paper. Today, stuff would be in plastic and I don't know about the future.
pixels and laserbeams

The people in the video are picking up items with white gloves to preserve the artifacts... then a women holds a newspaper with her bare hands...
The problem with that is its hard enough to interpret data on 30 year old hardware on modern computers, never mind a century old. Somehow I doubt anything will still use SATA or USB in 2113.
Put a computer in there too.
"and here is a silicon mold of a penis. obviously, this is how human penises used to look back in the year 2013" "ooh aah *cameras clicking*"
I read the second "penis" as "pelvis", I was so damn confused

When I was a child I participated in a time capsule. I drew a spacecraft and it was chosen. The capsule will be opened in 1000 years.
They need to store several TB's of r34 clop porn for shits and giggles.
And people wonder why the future keep s sending us genocidal robots.
If we were going to do this now, We had better pack a computer in the capsule also, Since I doubt 100 years in the future they will be able to build one from scratch.
Put a computer in there too.
Put a really low spec terrible PC in there and make it look like technology was something miles far from what it is in their time
Put a really low spec terrible PC in there and make it look like technology was something miles far from what it is in their time
Or put a beast in it and say that it was the low-end affordable consumer PC.
When I was a child I participated in a time capsule. I drew a spacecraft and it was chosen. The capsule will be opened in 1000 years.
Will it really last that long?
Will it really last that long?
Well, that is kind of the whole point of a time capsule.
