This is just silly.
I liked the contrast the cartoony Mario and the realistic environments had a lot more than I thought I would
reminds me of adventure mode in smash bros.
I'd play it
I really like where this is going
Also that bowser music, hnng
I was wondering why the animations were so stiff, but then I realized that it was mimicking his 64 appearance exactly. Pretty amazing stuff.

I wish it didn't though, honestly. It just doesn't mesh well with his HD design.

I dunno. I like it but don't like it at the same time.
Like it because it keeps the original style and flair of Mario 64, and I think it works well with the HD design
Don't because of it being stiff
When is this going to be sued by Nintendo?????
I love Nintendo, but looking at this makes me feel they fucked up with the WiiU.
While it's a great system, I wish they would've used much more updated hardware.

yeah show me one ps4/xbone game that looks as good as the UE4 demo maps
At least current gen isn't running on eight year old hardware.
The problem with the as WiiU is the same as the Wii.
The WiiU is on the same hardware level as the PS3,
you gonna tell me that the ps360 isn't showing its age?

What is this argument even
Why does he have to show you a PS4/X1 game with graphics as good as UE4 demo maps?
How does that affect his argument of the Wii U not being as powerful as he'd like?
how long until Nintendo takes down this video?
yeah show me one ps4/xbone game that looks as good as the UE4 demo maps
show me a PC game that looks as good as the DEMO MAPS
PC GAME, FULL GAME, and can run on at least a 660 as a minimum spec. rendering a full area and NPC's, as well as processing AI, and various other things
not a visual demo that doesn't have any programming or game in it. like the UE4 demo maps are. No video game these days are going to render the amount of visual stuff the UE4 demo's do.
also, just following your logic, I found a game that looks as good as the UE4 demo maps
the ue4 demo maps themselves are a great match
but if you want me to be serious about it
Bloodborne is the prettiest game of this generation imo

I can't really represent Xbox however so someone else will have to do that for me, haven't followed it.
Now all he has to do is make Mario himself more realistic.

Can't forget about Driveclub which has a fuckton of modern graphical features and incredible attention to detail in the environments

physically based rendering, ambient occlusion, screen-space reflections, parallax occlusion mapping, global illumination, procedural volumetric clouds, volumetric light rays, sub-surface scattering.

This would also be really cool to see if he kept the mechanics but did really high quality hyper-realism models and animations.
Like the kicks in the same speed and yada yada but you mocap it until you get a take a that looks like the 64 one, and you do a model of a real guy shaped as much like mario as possible with really nicely textured hat/overalls. Re-do popular levels so people will know how to play the game already and hand them a controller and let them go.
That would be the final step, the furthest juxtaposition
honestly i mean this looks fuckin amazing and i love seeing a character move around these awesome sets but i prefer the 3d world look of things. i thought sm3dw nailed the art style of a classic mario game, minus the terrible AA and sometimes off kilter textures. it's not the best looking game by far, and could definately use some of that next-gen polish, but it's aesthetic is perfect for a mario game. if it looked closer to their renders, it's be perfect.

if we could get closer to how smooth these renders look, i'd be happy"

actually reflective floors, plush grass models and some awesome bloom effects, stuff like that are welcome, but i don't feel like it needs to be realistic. i'd rather the effects obey the world they're in rather than our world, because like look at how undetailed and smooth that pirahna plant looks in the corner of the render, and how it still looks nice.

Dude have you seen Bayonetta 2? That shits just as next-gen as Bloodborne, and I'm not hating on Bloodborne. Sure the WiiU isn't quite on the same level as the PS4, but definitely more powerful than the PS3.

Bayonetta 2 definitely looks good and is a very very good game, but seriously Bloodborne is quite a step above.
(I've played both!)
Anyways, the Wii U does have a somewhat stronger GPU than the PS3/X360.
For a comparison in compute performance:
Wii GPU: 11 Gflops (Similar to the 8.6Gflop Gamecube GPU)
PS3 GPU: 228 Gflops
360 GPU: 240 Gflops
Wii U GPU: 350 Gflops
X1 GPU: 1310 Gflops
PS4 GPU: 1840 Gflops
This does not directly translate to real-world performance, but it gives you a basis for comparison.

Nintendo is insanely good at making great looking games on fairly shit hardware. The DS and Wii both had the power of a toaster but some of the stuff that came out for it was incredibly impressive.

next-gen
And yeah, WiiU is obviously stronger than PS3 but that's not really a big feat considering how PS3 was released in 2006
I'm conflicted about remake stuff like this. It's so obvious that the stiff SM64 animations don't look good anymore, but at the same time I felt that SM64's movement mechanics were the best in the entire series. If those animations could be improved without compromising the SM64 clone gameplay, it'd be perfect (to me, at least).

Honestly, I don't mind, Nintendo are smart enough not to chase graphical fidelity and photo realism with their graphics and all the WiiU 1st party games look amazing because of it.
Edit:
Nintendo being 'smart' is them playing to the strengths of consoles: pure power and graphical fidelity is not a strength of any console, not when they PCs to compete with. But one thing that is more of a faff with a PC is plugging in 4 wireless controllers, hooking it up to a large TV, ordering pizza and playing a 4 player coop/competitive game for 8 hours straight. Nintendo have that local experience in spades. They also have nostalgia and whimsy in games like Wind Waker HD, which is a strength they have over their competitors because Microsoft entered the market too late and Sony never invested in more bright and colorful games and instead went down the grittier and darker route which was best in the short term.
tbh it just looks like a mario model over some stock unreal 4 assets
tbh it just looks like a mario model over some stock unreal 4 assets
That's because it is...
God I want a Mario 64 2. The freedom of movement in the original Mario 64 is still unmatched in any 3D platformer since.

You're delusional if you think Bayonetta 2 looks the same as Bloodborne.
