Resoulve: Antropocentrism ought to be valued over biocentrism
Definitions:
Antropocentrism:Humans are the most important species in the world.
Biocentrism:all life is equal.
So basically its "Humans vs nature" Should humans take advantage of nature to thrive IE chop down forests for wood and land.
This is a national debate topic, so debate away facepunch.
Humans are the shit by coincidence.
We're the peak of the evolutionary pyramid because we can wipe any other species off the globe on a whim. We're better at staying alive and reproducing than any other creature of our relative size. We do however have a duty as superior lifeforms. A "prime directive" of sorts.
Humans are the most important.
also EXPLAIN why you chose to support the side you choose.
I at least value Antropocentrism the most as I feel Humans are the only ones capable of combating mother nature and hopefully one day overcoming destruction by natural disaster if we don't destroy ourselves by then.
Biocentrism is impractical in any real life situation.
Humans deserve to be able to do whatever they fucking want to nature, because they evolved to their current position and reached the status of dominant species.
However, there are human benefits by keeping nature stable, so it is common decency and sense to not chop down all the trees on the planet and make other species extinct.
Also, global warming is a another issue caused by humans, and it should be addressed by lowering our intervention in forests and by building greener power sources.
For example, Switzerland has a 95% carbon neutral power infrastructure. More governments should take steps toward this level of "green-ness."
Antropocentrism all the way.
No animal can do, think, or act the way humans do.

the definitions we went by in competition.
Anthropocentrism, its human instinct to put ourselves above other animals.

considering all forms of life as having intrinsic value
Or, all life is equal in value.

Your logic fails because Humans are animals.
Has anyone considered we are, in effect, nature?

Humans. We're the best.

hurr hurr
you know what he ment
Our intelligence makes us the best species in some respects and the worst in others.
Humans are smart.
Humans shouldn't think of themselves as superior to every other living thing. We're smart but that doesn't mean we're entitled to do whatever we want.
Save the whales and the spotted owl ok?? Hug a tree everyday too, cause it's a good thing.

We are not animals???
Humanity.
Fuck yeah.
Humans are above nature, but that does not mean we should abuse our position.

They're like antelopes but they build rockets.
More governments should take steps toward this level of "green-ness."
Almost no other governments have the power to do this or have a voter base that would support it at their expense. We are the best. We should become more eco-friendly because it's in our own best interest (which it is) not because we need to save the animals.
Biocentrism
Oh god I just killed millions of spores with that last breath. I'm going to hell.

we are superior, we can and do whatever we want, hugging trees gets no one nowhere and we are smarter than any other animal on the planet.

We're talking about real issues in here, this is not the mythical beast thread ok? Maybe if you wanted to you could make a thread about Anthropocentricism vs Biocentricism, but instead it could be referring to astrolopes, jackalopes, and unicorns.
