“If you feel, respectfully, that you can get a higher return than the 38 percent you got last year, it’s a free country. You can sell your shares of Starbucks and buy shares in another company. Thank you very much,” he said, to loud applause from the audience.
http://kplu.org/post/schultz-defends-starbucks-support-same-sex-marriage Audio available in source.
I love how all these business giants are supporting gay marriage. It'll make the movement move way faster. Maybe homophobia will be as taboo as racism where I live by the time I die.

And one by one we march closer to equality.
fukken REKT
Too bad his company evades taxes.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?! I MUST ESCAPE FROM THE SOUTH.
East Bay near SF in California. Only real homophobia I encounter is casual insults, or dumb religious kids. Extreme racism/homophobia only really comes from the old conservative people, but I don't worry about them much because they're going to die soon.
Too bad his company evades taxes.
As already stated, it's a big corporation. It's to be expected although it's still a dissapointment when it comes to tax avoidance laws.
Not even the most anti-gay person will boycott Starbucks. :P Gay marriage is a popular issue anyway so if anything it will win them alot of popularity.
Too bad his company evades taxes.
You say that as if every other large company doesn't do this as well.
Not even the most anti-gay person will boycott Starbucks. :P Gay marriage is a popular issue anyway so if anything it will win them alot of popularity.
Some people could potentially boycott it, but considering the customer base of Starbucks, they'll gain more customers than they'll lose.
You say that as if every other large company doesn't do this as well.
No I say it as if its wrong since they don't pay their part. This is a PR move and it won't sway my opinion of tax evading companies one bit.

Racism isn't taboo in this country at all, it's just a bit uncommon.
Not even the most anti-gay person will boycott Starbucks. :P Gay marriage is a popular issue anyway so if anything it will win them alot of popularity.
it fits in with their larger demographics too. starbucks tries to maintain an aura of seattle hippyness. it wants to look hip, cutting edge, and diverse. it makes sense from a profit standpoint to support issues that are considered "hip", even if it attracts boycotts from other small groups.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?! I MUST ESCAPE FROM THE SOUTH.
In Chicago we also try to avoid the south side. :v: Vast majority of people here are in favor of gay marriage, excluding some of the historically rich and racist families on the far north side.

Nice to see a high up businessman champion a cause of tolerance I guess although it kinda seems like a PR stunt. Shame his corp exploits third world coffee farmers whilst hiding behind "fair trade" marketing slogans. Watch the Black Gold documentary to see what goes on with Starbucks coffee farmers and many many more. That's before you even get to how shit the coffee is comparatively with other cafe chains and fresh roasted bean suppliers... unless that's just me?

A PR stunt would have been him going "yeah gay marriage woohoo"
About the same in Fresno, California.
Haven't heard much of it in Berkekey either, granted I don't go around asking people their opinions on the matter.
Telling people of your own company to "fuck off and sell your shares" is not a PR stunt. I'm not sure how I feel about corporations investing in political and social issues. This is a great thing for Starbucks to be doing, but I know I wouldn't want to work for a company like Chik-Fil-A that supports causes I don't agree with at all.

I hope gay/lgbt people get their own Martin Luther King Jr. Black people deserved Martin, now gay people need one. Would be fab.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?! I MUST ESCAPE FROM THE SOUTH.
Living in Louisiana here and my town is surprisingly really accepting. I guess I'm just lucky
I live in Kentucky, some of my family members such as my brother and father dislike gays and respond in a hostile way towards them when ask anything gay sexual stuff.
That's nice, but you're a bunch of dirty tax dodger sucking money out of our country.
