Hi,
I'm asking for a friend as they do not use forums and I would not call myself a tech guru. I have a friend who's looking to purchase a gaming laptop or any laptop that can perform for high end gaming.
His ideal budget is around $2,500 AUD, though he would go to $4,000 AUD if needed.
I have mentioned that a custom build PC would be far more cost effective to value, but my friend prefers the portability and also, he's not exactly a hardcore gamer. So long hours on end of gaming everyday isn't a common occurrence in his life (mostly due to a busy schedule), though he does play games that need high specs. In fact, he wanted to play Elder Scrolls Online and purchased the game only to find out his old laptop wouldn't run it. He does enjoy Skyrim and would like something that can easily run high spec games which would come out over the next few years too. Basically something that would perform well and last. Might be an oxymoron, but we're looking for something that's basically go big or go home .... under the specified budget.
We've been looking around at reviews, though I'd like some advice from tech savvy people to get more of a direct opinion and suggestions.
Cheers!
I'd recommend anything by MSI speaking from experience, I've had my GE72 6QC since the start of 2016 and she still runs like an absolute dream, the ability to ramp your fans up to max at the touch of a dedicated button is nice; I've had no cooling issues whatsoever while packing a GTX960 and an i7-6700hq; the keyboard is surprisingly tactile for a laptop; and it's generally a really nice all-round piece of kit. It's worth getting more opinions and stuff though as I'm only speaking from personal experience and haven't dealt with too many other gaming laptops. I can run BF1 on low-mid settings at a solid 60fps and everything still looks lush so it does everything I need.
Another week where I'm recommending Clevo/Sager again. :v:
Clevo/Sager laptops are extremely affordable depending upon how you configure them.
As you're in Aus I'd recommend having a look at Metabox which are just rebranded Clevos or Affordable Laptops which also does the Metabox branded Clevos (bit like how in the UK PCSpecialist does a rebranded Clevo and others resell those rebrands, reseller of a rebrand of a reseller, gets funky).
Alternatively, MSI is the other choice they do the exact same thing as what Clevo/Sager does but with a much better warranty, with Clevo its down to the reseller to provide it, they just produce the chassis for them to put the parts in.
Seconding the Clevo/Metabox laptops.

With the 16GB RAM and an additional 1TB 7200RPM HDD options for a total of 2512 AUD. Will run pretty much anything you throw at it in 1080p at 60+FPS without having to lower the settings.
Though you also need to add an additional 100AUD for the Windows 10 license.

Nah I wouldn't bother with the $100AUD license (for fucking home edition of all things), you can get a OEM key and the ISO legit for cheaper from resellers, no point when you can get a professional OEM key for like $30AUD.
You can also still upgrade a W7 or W8 machine through https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/accessibility/windows10upgrade for free, plus if they're already using W10, all they need to do is install it and sign in with their MS account, it should still activate as long as it gets registered as the only machine linked to the account.
try alienware
