POLICE spent hours investigating a gruesome murder scene — before realising it was the set of a horror film.
Firefighters had been called to a blaze at the George Washington hotel in Pennsylvania when they stumbled upon the blood-splattered room — and what they thought was a human scalp.
Six officers rushed to the US hotel with one describing it as the most grisly killing he had found in 35 years.
But after declaring the room a crime scene they discovered it was actually the abandoned set of 2010 horror film New Terminal Hotel.
Body
Police Chief JR Blyth said at first they had been sure there must have been a body hidden in the room.
He said: "I had no idea what was going on — blood on the floor, the mattress, the walls, the pillows, a piece of a scalp with hair still attached in the centre of the bed.
"I thought we got a dead person somewhere.
"I was mad at first because at the time we declared it a crime scene.
"I had to call my detectives out — that's eight hours of overtime."
The horror flick, billed as an exploration of the dark side of Hollywood, was released in March and went straight to DVD.
The real-life hotel has a reputation for being haunted and more than a dozen people have died there since it was built in 1923.

Although the film was shot a year and a half ago owner Kyrk Pyros said he left the set there for ghostly tours he takes around the building.
He said: "Firefighters were getting everybody out safely and alive.
"No one got hurt in the fire. It was just accidental. Then, about an hour and a half into it the coroner said they found a crime scene.
"He said there is a scalp, there is blood all over the walls, written in all kinds of languages.
"I smiled and he looked at me and said, 'I am not finding this funny'.
"I said well, that is where New Terminal Hotel was shot, that is our scare room."
Hey, this just made 6 officers very happy.
That was pretty retarded for the movie crew to just "abandon" the scene like that.
I just realized something. The Sun is absolute shit.

You're forgetting the part their "scene" was in a building that was ON FIRE
It was left as an exhibit because the building had a 'history of hauntings' or something.

You're forgetting the part where the movie was released several months ago.

You're forgetting the part where they kept it as a gimmick for the hotel.

You completely missed the point of my post. BANNED USER's post implied that he thought they were still filming the movie when the building caught fire. I was saying the movie was released months ago to correct him, and the whole "leaving the set as a gimmick" was implied in my post.

Ah okay. I missed the fact that it would be implied in the way the conversation played out.
