Also, wow, passing the blame for shit road maintenance onto the Romans is beyond idiotic.
Everyone knows modern roads are/ get fucked up easily because their construction and repair is half-assed.
My grandpa used to do construction (along with a million other things) and he saw plenty of roads get put down that didn't even last half as long as they should have, because corners were cut to save a relatively insignificant amount of money. But, by the time they went to shit, the people that made those decisions had retired or moved on. Which is exactly what they were counting on.
