Mojang is finally getting into the curated monthly delivery business. It's basically Loot Crate, in that subscribers sign up for a monthly box called a "Mine Chest," which will run you $29.99. Right now it's in its beta phase, and the first run will have an exclusive shirt, but other items will show up periodically like figures, recipes, and more.
seems a little late to hit the minecraft hype at its peak

You'd be surprised how insanely popular it still is
Oh nvm, it's real life stuff
I'm surprised it took this long if anything. That game mostly thrives off of merchandise, and Lootcrate is one of the biggest cash grabs I've seen in years.
Will it have a fucking inflatable fucking crown?
Who the fuck are 'Adventure Chest Inc'
If they have stones and ores in it I might want it
us only
If they have stones and ores in it I might want it
Comes with real gold!*
*Costs $7,499.
I wonder if IdubbbzTV will do a bad unboxing of one :v:
I seriously hope it never contains "meme" crap from popular youtubers. Nothing beats being on the outside of a ridiculous inside joke!
Recipes? Jeez, they're really splashing out here.
you couldnt have chosen a better photo for op
they put more effort into everything Minecraft except the game itself
Modders basically made 1.7.10 have 20 times more content than the game normally has

Not only that but they have been making MC better for years now. Vanilla progression is pretty shallow. Mods add a huge amount of content and actual progression. It is the only thing that kept me playing the past years.
they put more effort into everything Minecraft except the game itself
The Windows 10 version runs lightyears better than the old Java one, especially when it comes to chunk loading, alleviating the one thing that persistently annoyed me since alpha. But christ, all the hoops I had to jump through just to play the thing; all that Microsoft account and Xbox Live account bollocks. Plus no mods yet, the only thing that makes the game worth playing for me anymore.
Well at least you sort of know what your getting, as opposed to Loot Crates that might be filled with stuff from games/movies you don't care about.
On the other hand you'd have to be a bit obsessive to buy $30 worth of Minecraft merchandise every single month. I mean how many Minecraft t-shirts do you need.
Still milking this game to the last drop, I see.
Problem with these blind box and loot crate is that I don't know if I'm getting gold or crap.
That's basically the idea. For the first few you put a bunch of really fancy shit in them, then people will buy it because there MIGHT be something really good in it this month.
[editline]19th February 2016[/editline]
And if you encourage people to make unboxing videos and show off the shit inside, plus give a couple free ones to some big youtubers, you basically get free advertising
Honestly don't see the massive appeal of these blind boxes. Normally full of pretty shit stuff. The stuff you actually wanted could be bought for cheaper without any of the crap to go along with it.
On the other hand, I've had good luck with that 'Graze'. Not really blind as per say as you can sort of customize it to your tastes, but some decent snacks I've had from it.
So uh, why did MC development hit like a standstill, 1.9 still isn't out and has like 5x the weekly snapshots that every other one does.

Minecraft itself was built upon hills of poorly integrated coding practices, all strung together like a loose pile of hay in a dry summer month. I believe that most of the work put into the game for the past months dealt with difficulties that came out of said poor choices.
I think Java can be used to make wonderful games, but the engine has its limitations. Runescape was an example of how switching to a programming language that could be built into games rather than around made almost everything better.
Just wait for the loot box shit to hit eBay and then buy the things you like for cheaper lol.
I don't think it's very good for them to use that excuse anymore, the game has had a big development team and near infinite resources for 4 years now.
that excuse was only relevant when Notch and Jeb were pretty much the only developers
now they have a team of "professional" [citation needed] developers, who do shit things poorly(uh dinnerbone why are you creating thousands of new objects every frame? you horrible mutant)
the game is truly turned into a code loch ness monster

I believe they're focusing more on the Windows 10 version now.
Just download it (Free if you already own Java Minecraft) and see how much smoother and more optimized it is compared to the Java version.
also for the low low price of $40 you too can have a MINE CHEST!!!
oh my god so expensive
Video game related swag is cool for a shelf but these random box's keep adding complete bullshit, I'm never going to care for it, because it's scummy that lootcrate just adds marketed advert garbage in their boxes instead of anything actually decent
It's TRAAAASH
Anyone talking about how it's in Beta?
