I didn't really look into Martyrs when I saw it, I just clicked rent. The movie arrived a long time later (when it was released), I had forgotten about it by then. It came straight out of the box and into my blu-ray player. Holy shit. It was the most upsetting, dark, sadistic, horrible and disgusting film I had ever seen. It's a french film (no surprise) about a young girl (Lucie) who was physically and mentally tortured for 14 months, but manages to escape. She then is taken into a mental asylum where she becomes friends with another girl her age (Anna). They are there for some 15 years, when they are released. They then track down her torturers and make them pay. But that is only one quarter of the story, you can see the film yourself to see what exactly happens. I found the story understandable and gripping, and the visuals stunning and believable. It is definitely NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH. But, for those who don't mind horrific torment, you can rent the film from here http://www.lovefilm.com/film/Martyrs/127070/ I recommend it to any horror fan. It made hostel look like sesame street.
Why would you want to watch something like that? I guess some people must like it, but I always watched films to feel good, not to see some girl get tortured.

i didn't think it was that bad [editline]07:03PM[/editline] that movie goes in such an odd wtf direction after whatsername kills herself
Sounds interesting.
I enjoyed it. Awesome ending.
Are there subtitles? Or is it entirely in french?
There are subtitles.
And then she made martyrdom
Kept expecting lesbian scene, was disappointed.
Kept expecting lesbian scene, was disappointed.
They kissed at one point but that's it.
Bitches with shotguns, Awww yeeeaah.
that shit looks crazy, i cant wait to see it.
And I didn't think the french could do anything right. I'll be checking this out.
Saw this a few months ago and *loved* it. It starts off a bit slow in my opinion but it really picks up. I'm a big fan of horror films. The French have been doing some awesome horror movies lately. I reccomend it, and yes definitely *not* for the squeamish! It's a really creepy plotline so not just a gorefest.
I'm not much for physical torture but punishment/revenge is always a good plot driver.
This is one of my favorite horror movies. It's the absolute opposite of cheesey and actually has a great plot. This movie is a step in the right direction for horror movies.
It was bad. Very bad. It's probably the only movie that really scared me.
I MUST see this.
is there scissoring in film, y/n [editline]01:49AM[/editline] the question is clear
Why would you want to watch something like that? I guess some people must like it, but I always watched films to feel good, not to see some girl get tortured.
That's what people said about Reservoir Dogs. The story is important, not what happens on screen.
In the poster. Their tits are almost touching. Too bad there's no lesbian scene. I may see this if I get a chance, doesn't seem to good. [editline]01:17AM[/editline] Scratch that, tits are touching, my bad.
A bit off topic, but does anyone know the french horror where a man kidnaps a the main characters friend after murdering her family, and in the end, the man ends up being the doubled personality of the main character?
No. That's a bit vague.
