On August 22, I will be moving into a dorm, specifically The Towers At University Town Center (UTC) in College Park, MD. Well, it's more like an apartment for students. A dorm is like that, but on the campus itself. This is not on the campus. The reason I'm moving is because my father is moving to NJ after getting married. I can choose this place or live at my moms for maybe 300/mo, but 40 minutes from my work as opposed to 15, and plus my mom is fucking crazy sometimes, and I won't be able to bring girls into the house even though I'm 19 (well, I'd be able to have them over, but I "can't sleep with them in their house." or some shit.
Anyway, at first glance, this place seems like the bee's knees. It has everything:
Pool, game room (not arcade, but pool tables and shit), free wifi everywhere, including rooms, free cable with option for premium channels, private bathrooms, gym, etc. You can also pretty much keep guests in indefinitely (a reasonable amount of time) for free as long as they check in and shit.
Now, yesterday I took the tour and it seemed pretty nice and my father signed the paperwork and everything.
Now, this morning I decided to check the reviews (should have checked before). Everyone says the same thing (albeit, the reviews are mostly 2-3 years old when the place was new): asshole front desk staff, asshole security and dumbass tenants. Not to mention that the free Internet is (apparently) slow as shit and always has outages, a 25 dollar electricity cap that barely covers the basal state of the rooms, the safety of the area, or lack of (in PG county, MD if you know where that is) in the surrounding areas, etc.
There are three days to cancel the contract with no penalty.
If everyone is saying the same thing then you hsould probably cancel the offer.
How much would it cost to cancel after the deadline? It might have been a bunch of idiots that got thrown out.
Cancel. Sounds like shit to me, you won't get anything there than you would at home that's worth it right now.
Wait till you find something better?

You can't cancel after that deadline. You'd have to find tenants yourself to fill the space.
Cancel it then.
Look around and cancel on last day if needed.
The thing is, I don't want to have to move to my moms and be away from all my friends and shit.
If I were you, I'd find some more recent reviews before making my mind up.
When I lived in the dorms at odu, i had asshole front desk people, asshole security and dumbass tenants. I thought about canceling my application for the dorm, but didn't have anywhere else to stay my freshman year.
You'll be surprised though, you'll probably have more fun than you think. That year in the dorms was the most fun year in college I think.
Cancel it. There is never a shortage of student accommodation, you can find somewhere better
All student accomodation is the same. It is compulsory that you, during your time as a student, complain about your dorms. That way you are a real student.
If any ex-students ever say "My dorm was wonderful..." and then reels off a list of things that were excellent, all other students who had 'shit living quarters' can then look down on this person and say that their experience of student life 'wasn't real'.
Suck it up, you'll be too busy fucking to notice.
The only thing is the internet.
Those are some great reviews. Drop it why haven't you done it already is the question.
get your own flat
get your own flat
Yeah, all for for 1600 bucks/month plus utilities.
I've priced it out. There is really no other place that does stuff like this for this price. Apartments around where I live are really expensive since I live in the Washington D.C area.
Ask the owners about the reviews. Find people that live there/lived there last year etc. Then make up your mind.
