Argentine Judge orders $156m seizure of oil company assets 'illegally' drilling in the Falklands

[quote]Tierra del Fuego judge Lilian Herraez ordered the authorities to seize boats and other assets worth $156m.
Argentina claims sovereignty of the islands, which it calls the Malvinas.
The oil companies named in the case are not based in Argentina and it is not clear how the measure will be implemented.
Drilling for oil in the territorial waters around the Falklands began in 2010 despite opposition from Buenos Aires.
Britain has held the Falklands for 180 years and says the wishes of its 3,000 residents should be respected.
The vast majority of them want the islands to remain a British overseas territory.
"They want to remain British and that view should be respected by everybody, including by Argentina," said David Cameron after a 2013 referendum in which the islanders gave almost unanimous support for the status quo.
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner said at the time that Britain was "arrogant" and "bordering on stupidity" for refusing to negotiate on the future of the islands.

I wish Argentina would fuck off about the Falklands already. I've never seen anybody else whine about the Falklands.

Maybe because nobody else but them care about it?

Nobody expects the Chileans. The Argentines are the perfect distraction.
Didn't Argentina have a deal signed with UK that they'd receive a cut of profits if oil was found in the Falklands, but later went back on that deal? :v:
Wish nobody drilled down there, no matter the profits for anyone involved and not involved.
Honestly, something like BP-Mexican Gulf goes off, and nobody will give a fuck. Not the US, not UK, not Europe, no one.
And who will be totally affected? Us because our whole continental platform extends a lot southwards.

If with all those ass holes fishing inside the British zone who attract fish from our side with lights is enough, an oil spill would just fuck up everything.
We already had a retarded Shell ship crash near shore in Magdalena, and no one gave a fuck. Shell just wiped its hands clean and said everything was fine and then offering a meagre 10 million dollars when they totally messed FUBAR a whole area with oil.
The funny thing? They offer it as a "solidarity contribution" without accepting responsibility....

Even the fish don't want to be part of Argentina

After Deepwater Horizon completely screwed up eastern Florida and the other Gulf of Mexico states' tourism and ecology, I completely understand.
It'd be worse for Argentina if there was another BP fuckup off their coast, because what could the people of Argentina do? The US we could at least fuck BP's shit up in litigation because a large amount of their oil production is based in the US. I don't know how much the UK would cooperate with Argentina in prosecuting BP.

My problem with this post is that the only reason Argentina is angry is because they are not the ones drilling.
I wish the bitching about the Falklands would just stop. Sure it's on the Argentinian platform, but that doesn't really mean anything.
Really regret being born on this country because I identify with absolutely noone here, specially not the "our island" bullshit. I had to teach myself an entire fucking language just to find people that shared any of my interests.

Fixed that for ya. If only... :/

Always sounded to me like the government are using nationalism to distract the population from other problems in society that actually effect people.

Is this the kind of stuff the Argentine media put out? That method of fishing doesn't work like that...
