I've been thinking about it alot, and if my band doesnt go huge (ive accepted that it won't already) then I should set myself up for a job doing something I like to do. I don't know what kind of job I would want to do, but I know I can't do programming and i'm not very good at modeling at all. I'm just asking for suggestions on how I can get started on accomplishing this goal.
ok since you aren't good at programming or modeling
you should get good at programming and/or modeling
You should start modding for a desired engine or gathering resources for modifying an open-source engine to create an indie game.
It all starts with modding, and if you can't figure things out yourself on where to start then your wasting your time since you won't go anywhere.
ive modded halo pc quite heavily without mod tools.
Any points?
What kind of mods did you do?
so you can't model or code? what exactly do you plan to do?
i changed alot of the textures, particle effects (or whatever the fxck they're called), and edited the existing models to resemble modern weapons.

when I said i couldn't model I meant I can't start from scratch :(

oh man that's heavy modding
that's like a whole new game, you should sell it
I think before you consider a career you should take a look at what you actually have to do
Head to the programming section. Buy a book.
I think the stupidest thing I did was buy C++ for dummies.
Unfortunately, those $10 worked well, and it taught me some really good stuff.
I still regret buying that book, there are better ones.
Do you actually enjoy designing games or do you just enjoy playing them?
