I havent' seen a thread about this so, here it is http://trekmovie.com/2012/09/07/exclusive-star-trek-sequel-title-confirmed/
TrekMovie has an update on our earlier story regarding the title for the Star Trek sequel We can now confirm the title that has been chosen by JJ Abrams and Paramount for the 2013 movie. More details below. Sequel title: "Star Trek Into Darkness" TrekMovie has confirmed with multiple sources that "Star Trek Into Darkness" has been selected as the title for the 2013 sequel to JJ Abrams’ Star Trek movie. This is a title that comes out of a long process of discussion amongst the creative team. As reported earlier, Paramount tested a number of titles for the film over the summer, including at least one title that did not include "Star Trek." Also noted in our earlier article, the title (by design) does not include a colon, like were used for the past franchise films such “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” "Star Trek: First Contact," etc. While Paramount will not officially confirm the news, multiple sources have told TrekMovie this is the title they are going with as of now. It has also been reported by ComingSoon that Paramount has secured the domain names to both www.startrekintodarkness.com and www.startrekintodarknessmovie.com, neither of which has any content. As for the title itself, "Into Darkness" does not reveal anything specific about the plot. So for those who were hoping for "Star Trek Khan" or "The Revenge of Gary Mitchell" you are out of luck. However, "Into Darkness" certainly gives us a hint that this film could have a serious tone and perhaps darker theme than the 2009 Star Trek film. On the other hand the title is also evocative of Star Trek’s core mission of going into the “darkness” of space, to seek out new life and new civilizations. Of course the current Trek team often point to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy as inspiration, with the second film in that series being titled "The Dark Knight" which itself had some very dark themes. Is this Trek sequel Star Trek’s "Dark Knight"? As that film grossed $1B world wide, I imagine Paramount is certainly hoping it is. According to sources, the creative team are still working on how they will officially roll out this new title. The first acknowledgement will likely be made with some kind of visual treatment, either a type treatment for the title or possibly even a teaser poster or image. Indications are that this official roll out should be coming soon.
Atleast it's better than Transformers Dark Of the Moon. Oh wait, it's not.
That sounds like a really lame pun
Obviously what they're saying is the render farm that they use to create lens flares has broken and the can't afford to replace it yet.
Maybe it's called that because Captain Kirk will be tempted into the Dark Side of the Force.
I hope we get some Spock on Spock action. Into Darkness
He's just crossing over to the dark side of his ship.
Scotty's too drunk/lazy to fix it, and he's always been the only Engineer on the Enterprise who can do anything. I'm pretty sure the rest of the crew are just paid to press a button every minute or so.
It couldn't be much worse than the last film... Could it?
The last film was good.
It couldn't be much worse than the last film... Could it?
I actually liked the last one. Puts a new spin on things, Kirk going through a completely different childhood. And plus, it's a new universe for JJ to play around with, so people who don't like it can stick to regular Trek canon.
My wife and I actually enjoyed the 2009 Star Trek. It was the first Star Trek she had ever watched, and because of it, started watching TOS with me, and liked those just as much. Name aside, I have no doubt this will be a decent movie as well.
Into Darkness would fit in well with a black hole related plot, but they already did that one.
Please, please, please stop making these movies Or at least get some actual Star Trek fans to write it, not Star Wars junkies. I love both Star Trek and Star Wars but for god's sake keep them separate.

A film in of itself it was decent. But as a Star Trek movie? I cringed.
I watched every Star Trek series, and movies atleast 5 times over, read many of the book. I loved Star Trek 11. I don't recall opinions being fact.
I'm the same as Delta, except the book part, only series I've read is Titan and one of the Lost Era books, ad I've only watched ST5 twice, god damn that movie was terrible.

This is essentially a whole different thing, new technological advances, new personalities, etc etc. You won't miss 157 (technically 182 at the time of Alt. Kirk being Captain) year old Spock.

It stayed true to the science of Star Trek, the actors who played the TOS characters did the job perfectly.

Phasers were and still are, more realistic "laser guns" than Star Wars blasters are.

When I will talk to people about this movie I'll probably say it a dozen times as "star trek: into the darkness".
The thing that irked me the most was the fact that phasers shot like Star Wars blasters. Phasers were and still are, more realistic "laser guns" than Star Wars blasters are.
Two words for you, phaser rifles TNG/DS9/VOY era.

At least the new movie was better than all the TNG movies. What we need is a new Star Trek TV show that isn't total shit *cough* Enterprise, Voyager, the second half of DS9 *cough*.

I blame my braint-
Voyager is what got me into SciFi, I love it :( But i suppose my view on that would be a bit warped by that fact. *cough*also that was the new enterprise right, old Picard one is pretty good*cough*
Enterprise was the 2002 series that took place before TOS and the formation of the Federation. The Next Generation took place 70ish years after TOS with the Enterprise D and Picard.
Fixed
Naw, all of Voyager was pretty much crap and same with the Dominion Wars.
Naw, all of Voyager was pretty much crap and same with the Dominion Wars.
one of the best episode of Trek (IMO) was in the second half of DS9, "In the Pale Moonlight" And Enterprise (again IMO) had one of the best 2 hours of Trek, the Mirror Universe two part episode. [editline]11th September 2012[/editline] Although, I agree about Voyager. There are only a handful episode I will re-watch.
