Last month, Michael passed away due to cancer at the young age of 22. Both were huge Borderlands fans, so Carlo thought a great way to honor his buddy's memory would be to shoot Gearbox Software an email asking for a short eulogy to be read by the game's smart-mouthed robot mascot Claptrap. Not only did Gearbox comply with the request, it also promised to insert Michael into the upcoming Borderlands 2 as an NPC.This is, without a doubt, one of the most heartfelt and generous acts of fan appreciation ever. For Gearbox to extend such an honor demonstrates how serious the company is in forging meaningful relationships with the people who play its games. This certainly isn't the first time Gearbox has gone above and beyond, and I guarantee it won't be the last. You can listen to Claptrap's eulogy for Michael below. And thanks for sharing this touching story with us, Carlo. You have our deepest condolences.
http://soundcloud.com/tony-12-2/claptrap-eulogy-for-michael/s-tmwpd
10 dollars says that it's a masked NPC.
Awesome! Now he can be killed again!
Can you get a cancer gun in borderlands?
Gearbox are awesome.
Can you get a cancer gun in borderlands?
I heard that it was once in the game but taken out during testing, killed too slowly or something.
I heard that it was once in the game but taken out during testing, killed too slowly or something.
I thought it was that if your character got shot by one they permanently lost health.
Gearbox are awesome.
Grammar are awesome.
Grammar are awesome.
Are you stupid? Gearbox is still a group of people
Are you stupid? Gearbox is still a group of people
Gearbox is a singular object so you use is.
Grammar are awesome.
This made me laugh.
Considering they also did a Claptrap wedding proposal, that is fucking awesome. Gotta love Gearbox.
that made me smile, Gearbox is a great company.
Gearbox now has my undying support. I shall always have complete and total faith in them, and anything that they ever release shall be a top priority of mine. That was touching.
Are you stupid? Gearbox is still a group of people
it's a collective noun you dunce. Eluveitie's use of the noun calls for a singular verb
it's a collective noun you dunce. Eluveitie's use of the noun calls for a singular verb
You see the problem here is, you guys are giving more of a shit about how I used a noun than the nice thing that Gearbox did for this bloke.
it's possible to do two things at once
it's possible to do two things at once
I never said it wasn't.
it's possible to do two things at once
Only if they're a woman.
10 dollars says that it's a masked NPC.
Hey, you hear when the water's gonna come back on?
That claptrap speech brought a tear to my eye. That's how a game company should act. I guess you could perceive it as PR, but I don't believe PR was the motive. Not from something heartfelt. Gearbox are among my favorite guys out there, staying in touch with their community and their fans, and this really goes to show the lengths they go to stay with that philosophy.
Thats awesome.
Hey, you hear when the water's gonna come back on?
You seen my gun?
Pre-purchase your eulogy DLC now! [editline]4th November 2011[/editline] Seriously though, this is awesome... that claptrap eulogy was great.
Gearbox is becoming more interactive with fans? Like Valve already is? Awesome.
Maybe if EA does something like this Activision will realize how cold they are [del]and kill themselves[/del]
I loved the marriage proposal video as well though. Skaggy style!
So his soul is condemned to an eternity of living in a shitty wasteland grinding fetch missions?
Reminds me of WoW where they put they put that kid with cancer and his dog into the game. http://gaming.freedomblogging.com/2008/10/24/a-fathers-tribute-to-ezra-the-world-of-warcraft-fan-with-brain-cancer/856/ Touching move but, I could never catch that god damn dog.
