That Alyssa Campanella girl is very pretty, and thinks like a human.
Dear god, I've never used those two words in one sentence before.
[sp] and she's a redhead EEEE[/sp]

Holy shit stereotypes ahoy. Figures the chick from Alabama doesn't believe in evolution and thinks it shouldn't be taught in school; however I have a great deal of respect for the chick from Alaska. She doesn't believe in it but thinks it should be taught in schools.
What. Can american schools actually choose whether they teach evolution or not?
I just lost all of my respect towards the american school system. Everything taught in schools should be knowledge acquired using objective scientific method. Everything that's "question of belief" should be left off. Evolution is not.
E: Please respond to comments instead of just rating dumb if you disagree.

No, individual schools can't choose, but individual states are allowed to make the decision whether schools are allowed to or not.
For the most part public schools teach evolution, but some schools, especially in Southern states, choose to barely mention it or completely avoid. It's been a huge debate.

Wrong, the federal government made it clear long-ago that it MUST be taught it public schools, but the state has the right to choose how it's done. Alabama got sued not too long ago for putting a sticker on their biology textbooks that said "warning: this book contains evolution and should blah blah blah..." It's safe to say that the federal government on that lawsuit of course.
Miss Arizona's explanation wasn't too bad, though, and Miss Minnesota brings up a good point.
I just don't understand the logic behind banning the teaching of something. its knowledge we should be exposed to, regardless of where we live. a truly religious person would believe in his specific god and matching book even though he could explain what evolution theory is.
another way the church and state try to control minds...

In case you don't know, she ended up winning Miss USA.
Also is it just me or does Miss Massachusetts look kind of like Yvonne Strahovski.
Nahhh lets not teach it. Just let them belive some magical sky unicorn made it >.>
It's not 1000BC anymore. We know the world isn't flat and we know there is no 'god'. Grow up

I worded it wrong actually. States are allowed to implement it in very simple ways such as teaching a single lecture on it. You're right, it's federally mandated, but they are essentially allowed to skip over it. I had a 7th grade science teacher that did just that, so me and my best friend decided to be assholes and ask my teacher all these evolution-based question when she clearly said she wasn't answering them.
Landed us an afternoon in detention, but it was so worth it. Such is life in Georgia. Although Atlanta is pretty good at not being 100% ass-backwards.

I'm a student in Alabama, and let me tell you everyone at my high school thinks evolution is dumb; even the teachers. It's a damn fact, and they aren't even teaching it.
Holy shit that chick from Colorado doesn't have a voice you'd expect her to have
Teaching kids anything other than hard facts is plain stupid, no wonder the generations are getting dumber
Teaching kids anything other than hard facts is plain stupid, no wonder the generations are getting dumber
Evolution isn't a 'hard fact' yet though, I do believe it's still classified as a theory.
This makes me rage so hard. I couldn't watch it past 3 minutes. YOU DON'T CHOOSE TO BELIEVE IN FACTS OR NOT, YOU ACCEPT THE REALITY AS IT IS DIPSHITS.
Evolution isn't a 'hard fact' yet though, I do believe it's still classified as a theory.
You are an idiot. You don't know what a scientific theory is. I hope you are beautiful, because if you're not, you're shit out of luck.
Evolution isn't a 'hard fact' yet though, I do believe it's still classified as a theory.
yes it is you don't know what a theory is
Evolution isn't a 'hard fact' yet though, I do believe it's still classified as a theory.
Yes it's still only classified as the highest level of knowledge science can offer.
Evolution isn't a 'hard fact' yet though, I do believe it's still classified as a theory.
Gravity is also only a theory :downs:
It should be taught in school because the US is founded on a secularist society. If they wish to teach children creationism at their house or the church then that's fine, however I don't believe it should be taught in school unless it is a religious studies course because it has little to do with modern science.
Some of their logic are really flawed.
The only answer to that is of course, because the evolution is a spectacular natural occurrence and it shows the development of all past and present animal species known to man.
It's simply one of the most interesting things that have happened in the whole god damn Universe! All starting from the "big bang" even though I believe it's highly likely that there has been something before that.. something! but i can't begin to comprehend what it possibly could be.
I think I like this "teach them all the opinions" thing. I can imagine it now, these wholesome god-fearing American women sitting down with their kids for dinner..
"Don't forget to do your Islam homework, Timmy!"

I'm not saying I don't believe in evolution.

Give me something showing it's an absolute fact and still not a theory.

Jesus where did you people read that I said I thought it was fake :downs:

To all the retards going to rate me boxes, I do believe in evolution.
Then again you're probably going to read it as "HE DOESN'T BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION BECAUSE HE SHOWS UNDERSTANDING TO THE OTHER SIDE!"
Watched this the other day.
Vermont and Connecticut confirmed for best states ever.

:downs:
You're acting like being classified as a theory completely removes all credibility of it.
Really, give me a source in which they changed it to a fact and removed the theory from it. Or you can keep giving :downs: and boxes because you're lazy/don't have anything.
However, in science, the meaning of theory is more rigorous. A theory is hypothesis corroborated by observation of facts which makes testable predictions. In science, a current theory is a theory that has no equally acceptable or more acceptable alternative theory.
Many people I know like to quote the fact that evolution is only a theory, but a theory is profound evidence supported by facts.
I believe that evolution should be taught in schools and religious beliefs can be taught where the religion is practiced.

I think you're mad because you made a completely stupid statement and everyone is justly berating you for it and then you're trying to pin everyone else as dumb.
Theory is the highest possible classification for a scientific models such as evolution; saying that evolution isn't a "hard fact" is misinformation on the level of most of these Miss America contestants. Theory and law aren't rungs on a ladder in some scientific hierarchy; both are as close as possible to facts as a scientist can get. Stop being a hardass.
