The bomb fell on Friday in a sugarcane field near the city of Lincang, in the south-western Chinese province of Yunnan. Nine other people were wounded, state media reported. The incident came a few days after a stray shell from Burma flattened a house in Chinese territory, prompting condemnation from Beijing. Chinese vice-minister for foreign affairs Liu Zhenmin urged the Burmese ambassador, Thit Linn Ohn, to investigate the bombing and take steps to ensure the safety of the border area.
Wops.
Burma's assault on rebels shouldn't result in the death of Chinese citizens within their border.
Burma's assault on rebels shouldn't result in the death of Chinese citizens within their border.
maybe china shouldn't be sponsering burma's rebels then if they don't want a conflict to spill over?
The rebels are from a group called the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army, which is led by ethnic Chinese commander Peng Jiasheng.
in any case this has been going on for at least 70 years now, nothing new, just more coverage
Earlier news said that they lied about the bombing saying that it's done by the rebels.
Burma's assault on rebels shouldn't result in the death of Chinese citizens within their border.
What a remarkable concept!
China's response seems kind of mellow to me. This makes me wonder if they aren't on the side, unofficially, of Burmese government troops in this conflict. Maybe they'd like the Burmese government to win, so China can wash its hands of the whole thing and walk away. As long as rebels are fighting there, the Chinese will have ongoing violence happening on its border. In the old days maybe they didn't care, but I bet they don't want that crap now.

It's not like they're being actively threatened.
maybe china shouldn't be sponsering burma's rebels then if they don't want a conflict to spill over?
people scoff at this sort of thing whenever someone says it but it's true. obviously burma fucked up and did something terrible but china is responsible for the safety of their own people and when they decide to back rebels in a conflict like this they are putting themselves in a compromised position, however insignificant the threat may seem at the time it's always a risk they have to choose whether or not to take.

I thought China actually trained Burma's military and gave them hardware? http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Southeast_Asia/GB11Ae01.html
maybe china shouldn't be sponsering burma's rebels then if they don't want a conflict to spill over?
Proof?
i wish school would actually teach shit because i didn't even know there was ongoing conflict in burma
i wish school would actually teach shit because i didn't even know there was ongoing conflict in burma
The Bamar majority government has been prejudicing various ethnic groups (primarily the Karen, Kachin, Shan and Chin) since 1948 across 4 different governments which has led to 22 different rebel groups rising up against the government.
i wish school would actually teach shit because i didn't even know there was ongoing conflict in burma
Can't teach about every little thing, unfortunately.
i wish school would actually teach shit because i didn't even know there was ongoing conflict in burma
there's a shit ton of political refugees here in central Indiana, now I guess I know why
Can't teach about every little thing, unfortunately.
Teachers give out bullshit homework and essays all the time. I'm not in school anymore, but they could easily give the students a 3-5 Q & A homework test about world events if they wanted to. Half the teachers in america don't even give a shit about their students and don't teach to begin with. I used to have a teacher that would challenge us and teach us things we didn't know about and it helped a lot of kids stop acting like shitheads and think about something other than what "jenny told paul last night". I sound like a bitter old woman lol
i wish school would actually teach shit because i didn't even know there was ongoing conflict in burma
Pretty much every country in that area has armed conflict within it's borders. Albeit for different reasons.
Pretty much every country in that area has armed conflict within it's borders. Albeit for different reasons.
Not Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore or Vietnam (8/10 ASEAN members)
I have a feeling that the Burmese military have some great navigation skills and ROE.
China's response seems like that of someone who doesn't want to stir up a conflict over an accident. It's not like they're being actively threatened.
It's a matter of saving face. If the military of another country bombs your country and kills your people, that's a big deal no matter how it happened. China is big enough and powerful enough to not have to put up with that kind of thing. Yet they are very restrained in their response, the kind of restraint that usually means you are in support of the action even if the result was unexpected.
Follow up: http://time.com/3745604/china-burma-kokang-myanmar/
In a statement released to TIME on Monday, the Burmese government insisted it was “maintaining [military] operations within the territory of Myanmar and respecting the territorial integrity and friendly relations between Myanmar and China.” And while expressing “deep sorrow for the death and injuries of Chinese nationals living in border areas,” and noting that a joint Sino-Burmese task force would be investigating the deaths further, the Burmese government also questioned “whether the Kokang insurgent group is involved in this incident to [create] a negative impact on the friendship between Myanmar and China and to create instability along the border area.”
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-31901942
Since the incident, China's air force has sent fighter jets to patrol the China-Myanmar border areas. China has also lodged an official protest with Myanmar's ambassador to China.
[editline]16th March 2015[/editline]
"We would like to express our deep sorrow for [the] death and injuries of Chinese nationals living in [the[ border area," Myanmar's government said in a press release in the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper.
How the hell do you manage to fuck up so badly that you accidentally bomb someone..?
I thought the city was very close to the border but: How the fuck do you fly 100km into mainland china to bomb a sugar cane field next to lincang?
i wish school would actually teach shit because i didn't even know there was ongoing conflict in burma
Top Gear has taught me more about international conflicts than school has, says something if you ask me.
i wish school would actually teach shit because i didn't even know there was ongoing conflict in burma
Dude if school teached every conflict there is School would be eternal
