In a column published in both the Washington Post and New York Post, Fox News contributor George Will dismissed claims of college sexual assault –using ‘scare quotes’ around the term– while stating students see victimhood as a “coveted status.”
Writing that college administrators are being “educated by Washington,” Will writes, “they are learning that when they say campus victimizations are ubiquitous” they are promoting the idea that victimhood is “a coveted status that confers privileges, victims proliferate.”
Relating the story of a Swarthmore coed who was coerced into sex after saying “no,” Will dismissed her claim of “sexual assault” claiming it was part of the “hookup culture, this cocktail of hormones, alcohol and the faux sophistication of today’s prolonged adolescence of especially privileged young adults.”
Will asserts that making the leap from “forcible sexual penetration” to “nonconsensual touching” is too broad of a definition for sexual assault, and denigrates the “doctrine that the consent of a female who has been drinking might not protect a male from being found guilty of rape,” worrying about the costs of litigation for the universities and the reputations of college men accused of assault.
Nothing good can come of this.
What the hell IS with all the rape these days?
Two years ago it was just Obongo and Mayans, these days it's all Bois vs Gurlz, and Rape.
Are people just getting uncontrolably horny or something? is it power? boredom?

Maybe it is being more reported now then before?
Hey Rangergxi do you get off on inevitable feminism shit flinging or something? You're posting bait as hell threads
On a completely uninspired, arbitrarily made note: Please ignore trolls, especially in threads like this one.
Maybe it is being more reported now then before?
Well then I guess there's just alot of rapes that I don't know about.
...soo what does that mean for me? I'm a white male American. What am I really supposed to do about this other than just "know" about it. I could just as easily go about my life not knowing that everywhere I look someone's getting raped.
I certainly will never rape anybody, it's wrong, everybody knows that.
I'm not even saying this to be smart about it, I just don't see how any of it effects me. I can see it must be horrible for the victims, and I certainly hope that any rapist get their just due punishments, but I go check SH every day for something new or interesting, and listen in on the news channels now and then. And it's most of the time just a report on yet another sexual assault.
Just like how I craved to be a regretful raving drunk who sometimes wakes up screaming in the night.
Oh wait no I didn't.

Regardless of personal support or lack there of for the argument, it seems to be that the status is claimed to be craved, not the crying yourself to sleep years later
Well then I guess there's just alot of rapes that I don't know about.
This is, like, just true
By that logic, I guess bar-goers crave glassing victim status...
Fox News is full of oxygen thieves.

It's all he seems to do. Post controversial articles, maybe make controversial opinion alongside them, and wait for the shitstorm broth to boil over.

It's Facepunch's increasingly more annoying Social Justice Warrior climate, and their redefinition of after the fact regret to full-on rape.

I think that no social issue that annoys me particularly should be discussed.

Ya know, assuming you're not just trolling, I honestly never thought I'd find myself in a position where I'd be able to communicate directly with someone of this mentality, but since I am let me ask you the question that goes through my head whenever I see someone saying things like that: what the flipping Hell is wrong with you?

could you actually debate with people instead of saying there is something wrong with them
could you actually debate with people instead of saying there is something wrong with them
I'll debate them when they have an actual argument with some semblance of logic or evidence behind it, when they state a belief that messed up and insulting, and don't explain why, I'm going to say there's something wrong with them.

hard to argue against somebody who begins their post with "It's Facepunch's increasingly more annoying Social Justice Warrior climate," lmao
thank you ranger for another quality shitstorm baiting thread
fox news being stupid as usual. whats new. but the fact that anyone could even form this as a thought and then think its perfectly acceptable to say these things in public is appalling

Say the two of us meet up at a club and we have a chat. I enjoy your company and decide to buy you a beer. We both have a drink, talk some more, have a laugh, then part ways.
An hour later, the bouncer angrily walks up to you and kicks you out of the club for stealing drinks.
It turns out that I ran out of money at some point and realized that if I hadn't bought you a beer, I could've enjoyed one more drink. I then regretted buying you a drink and told the bouncer you stole my beer from me.
Then you hurry to the Facepunch forums to make a whiny ad-hominem post ignoring the argument, people support you because this place is turning into a tumblr hugbox, and I somehow come home to an appartment full of cardboard boxes.

News isn't meant to be interesting or entertaining- it's meant to update. If you're looking for "something new and interesting", go to media sections instead of news ones?

I like how tumblr is short-hand for the anti-thesis to, and this is just what I'm assuming by looking at "V12US"'s posts, "practical centre-left liberal democracy".
This is the same kind of strange cognitive dissonance that makes some people talk about how feminism and affirmative action are ruining liberal democracy and enforcing radical ideas while at the same time decrying un-checked capitalism and theocracy.

I don't know what your point is or what your reason is for making this weird allegory. Do you think most or all accusations of rape are just regret after sex? Obviously false rape accusations are a very serious problem and can cause great anguish but you could say the same about rape. No need to downplay either or get all passive agressive.
Tumblr has been the pajorative for anyone showing even small signs of "hey maybe feminism, etc. isn't always terrible?" for at least a year now. As far as feminists go I'm as moderate as they come (I'm not even sure it's fair to call myself one because of how damn on the fence I am half the time, ) yet I've still been told to "go back to tumblr" quite a few times simply for deigning to suggest that maybe something isn't right.
It's Facepunch's increasingly more annoying Social Justice Warrior climate, and their redefinition of after the fact regret to full-on rape.
Boxing people into a "social justice warrior" category reinforces the notion that respect/equality are niche subjects instead of a general everyday life philosophy.
I know it's a ridiculous and really callous remark, but I'm guessing the fox article was at least touching on kangaroo courts colleges have to prove men guilty in rape cases. Obviously there are a lot of rapes in colleges, but I've been hearing horror stories recently about men who are falsely accused and the college decides to hold its own court where the guy is basically assumed guilty going in and barely let speak.
I've heard nothing but the opposite. Guy rapes girl, gets swept under the rug because they can't lose their chance at state football finals.

That isn't exclusive to rape.
If anything bad happens that could affect their status, it gets swept under the rug.
