As the title implies, Ricky Gervais of The Office and Extras, is collaborating with Clyde Phillips, a writer for Dexter, to produce a new sitcom about an atheist who goes to heaven.
The web was atwitter with reports that Ricky Gervais is planning a new sitcom called Afterlife, about an atheist who dies and goes to heaven. Twitter accounts went wild after it emerged the British comedy writer and performer is developing a show in collaboration with Dexter producer Clyde Phillips. Gervais, who has publicly stated on many occasions that he is a non-believer, will be looking to raise laughs from the odd situation of such a man going to heaven.
As of right now, the show is still in its beginning phase, so unfortunately there aren't currently any posters or trailers. News about when it will air:
The pair have already put their heads together to write a pilot episode and plan to film it early next year, with Gervais himself set to have a cameo role in the new production.
I'm looking forward to this, especially since in America we seem to have this idea that atheism hardly exists, and anyone who is an atheist is some kind of moral-less child killer.
Well, this sounds fucking amazing.
I dunno. This sounds like it could be a big hit or miss. It's got talent and humor, but it's viewer base may be limited in some areas (i.e. the Bible Belt). Even though I'm not an athiest, I'll probably watch this. Anyway you slice it, Ricky Gervais is funny.
Does anything Ricky Gervais turn out good?
Ghost Town and The Invention of Lying were pretty good.
Well all of Gervais stuff is amazing, I hope that they stick to Gervais's usual 6 episode thing so we can get quality instead of quantity
Sounds like it could be amusing, though I doubt it's going to win any support for atheism seeing as the premise of the show is that the atheist is wrong.
... the premise of the show is that the atheist is wrong.
Unless the atheist says that there's no god, they won't be wrong.
I can see this being edited into a disaster.
From my experience. Any television show Ricky Gervais is in is amazing. Every movie is fairly average.
That's like all Ricky Gervais talks about/does.
