• scientist who discovered giant spider gets death threats
The killing of a spider doesn't normally trigger death threats, but it does apparently if the spider's demise makes national headlines. Harvard researcher Piotr Naskrecki found this out the hard way after his account of finding a spider the size of a puppy in Guyana went viral earlier this month. A typical comment posted on his Facebook page: “Did you kill this amazing animal because you have to own it?” Another person emailed to say that someone in Naskrecki's family should die, reports Naskrecki has now written a new blog post explaining that yes, he did "carefully" kill the spider, called a Goliath birdeater, so the specimen could be preserved for study.
http://www.newser.com/story/197723/scientist-kills-spider-gets-death-threats.html basically shows that everyone will get death threats any time they make news. its about a week old but i just saw this today and don't think its been posted
This just in, people are assholes. More at 11.

Is there not a picture of this spider?
Relevant: QI on how to work out the age of a lobster. (Continues through a fact about giraffes, and onto relevant counting the legs of millipedes.) "It's the same thing with all these things. Before they count the legs, they kill it. So the legs are very still." I think we've reached the point that society itself is now a special snowflake. Biologists can't even fucking do their jobs without concern trolls sending death threats.
Michael Grant I would pour liquid nitrogen all over that spider until it was rock hard and then pick it up and throw it against a wall to see it shatter into a hundred pieces. jansav • 6 days ago If I see a spider the size of a puppy I would shoot it! Or run over it with my car or pour gas on it and set it on fire because it's a frkn spider the size of a puppy! But hey, that's just me. sageguy • 7 days ago Environmentalist wackos gone wild, yet these are the same liberal nuts that would turn a blind eye to the ISIS nut jobs slicing Americans heads off.

Is there not a picture of this spider?
it's bigger than a dollar bill, how about that.
This is stupid. Beyond stupid. The guy's doing his job and increasing the knowledge for all of mankind, which involves disassembling one specimen in order to understand what makes it tick, and he gets death threats for it?! The more we know about this thing the better. There's no telling what useful chemicals are riding along in its venom. The cure for cancer might be inside that spider for all we know.
it's bigger than a dollar bill, how about that.
Puppy sized dollar bills

Not that too long ago in the Videos and Flash Forum, somebody posted a YouTube video of somebody casting ant colonies with molten aluminum and the comments section of it on YouTube were just filled of people spilling out hate and death threats for him doing it, threatening to kill a guy for wiping out a colony of fire ants, which time I last checked were nowhere near going extinct or even being endangered. Yeah people are getting a little bit too damn sensitive about this shit now and I wonder how these people react to houses infected with termites and other pest and vermin being fumigated? In fact if you want to see some of those comments, look at this video another guy who viewed the thread in the Videos&Flash Forum made: And here's the actual video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGJ2jMZ-gaI
Death threats don't really mean much anymore, do they?
In fact if you want to see some of those comments, look at this video another guy who viewed the thread in the Videos&Flash Forum made:
Thanks for sharing it! My efforts were not in vain.

I bet those fuckers eat store-bought meat from commercial production facilities. Y'know, where the animals are kept in pens barely larger than themselves and are pumped full of hormones to maximize meat growth over everything else. But fuck you, you killed a single spider for scientific purposes? You are the scum of the universe and deserve to have your house napalmed with your entire living family inside it being gang-raped by Nazis.
Death threats don't really mean much anymore, do they?
It's the new stern-letter-to-the-editor. And character-limits like Twitter mean you don't have room for nuanced, complex arguments. Stick to the short, simple ones. Like explaining how you're gonna cut their throat. That means you disagree with their actions.
the really big spiders are actually pretty sick cos spiders legs are basically hydraulics, so when the legs get big enough for it to be audible they make cool robot noises when they walk
Is there not a picture of this spider?
So yeah, I'd rather have that in a museum dead than having more giant babies
the really big spiders are actually pretty sick cos spiders legs are basically hydraulics, so when the legs get big enough for it to be audible they make cool robot noises when they walk
That noise must be what nightmares sound like

Before, when we all had to interact in person, people kept most of their shit to themselves, but now that anyone with half an opinion can wave it around like it's the word of god, people say stupid shit and get mad when you disagree, and this kind of self-righteousness is leaking more and more into real life. That, or people have always been self-rightous idiots and I'm only realizing this now.
I honestly don't get the hatred for spiders and tarantulas. They're like miniature battletanks that help rid you of your fly revolution when was the last time you saw a cat ate a fly those lazy fucks at least spiders give themselves a purpose to stay with you.

I fucking hate spiders, for example. Never looked at any tarantula up close because I would probably die of a heart attack, but at least I learned restraint when dealing with regular tiny spiders in nature There's no mercy for spiders inside the house though.

Now at least I know what is the noise that will definitely make me shit my pants if I ever hear it IRL

If there were no spiders, you'd barely be able to read these words on your monitor because there'd be too many bugs around your head.
Just drew a big red 'X' over Guyana on my world map
this thread has already given me shivers
Fear of spiders is overblown as fuck, you'd think 90% of the human population would die of fright when even hearing about a spider. If there was a docile puppy sized spider I would totally walk it around town. No one would fuck with you.
