UK University 2010 (Where are you going and what are you studying?)
101 replies, posted
I start university on the 13th of September. Going to UCLAN (University of Central Lancashire) in Preston. Studying video game programming (http://www.uclan.ac.uk/information/courses/bsc_hons_computer_games_development.php)
Where is everybody else going and what are you studying? Anybody have any tips about living at uni?

don't drop your notebook
I am studying Fast Threads.
Holy shit man I'm doing a doctorate in Fast Threads!
I wasn't accepted anywhere because they make their money from foreign students so Scottish Students take second place.
Since there aren't any University threads in general, I'll post here, even though I'm not in the UK.
I go the the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Gonna be a sophomore next year, I don't know what I'm going be just yet. Something in business, media, I don't know.
Yeah I am not in the UK. I feel left out.
I got accepted in University of... srew that, I'm from Denmark, so why do you care. But it's going to be nice anyway.

Ouch, that really sucks. I was under the impression scottish universities got the same amount of money from scottish and foreign students?
Yes but Scottish students do not pay tuition fees at scottish universities - I'd say that wa was a large advantage. Also UCL to study German.
finished foundation year last year so going into my second year at swansea uni
Second year at Keele this year! Doing my first year again though because I've changed my subject.
Going into second year at Essex doing Economics, man I'm gonna miss being a first year!

There are extra fees and such on foreign students - Scots get their tuition fees paid by the Students Awards Agency of Scotland so we don't have to put a penny forward.
I'm going to be going into my 3rd year at Abertay in Dundee...awesome fun so far - To anyone having second thoughts about University, please give it a shot...it's amazing.
I'm not from the UK, I hope that's not a problem.
I'll study law in Cologne, beginning this October.

Haha, wow, you get your tuition fees paid completely? That's great for you guys. Costs is £3225 per year lol
Not university, but I want to be part of the moment :v:
Back to West Suffolk College to finish off my two year course in IT for practitioners. Then the hard part of finding a job or choosing a Uni.
You guys are going to get so incredibly drunk during Fresher's week.
Seriously, I don't drink that often and I bordered alcohol poisoning. If it's anything like Staffordshire University they'll actually have the Student Wardens dragging you out to have a drink.
I don't think I count, but what the hell. I'll be starting my second year studying for a Bsc in Film Production Technology.
Hertfordshire to do 3D Games Art, I'm thinking about changing to Visual FX though. Apparently it's easy to change because all the modules are the same in the first year, or something

But, as in my case, foreign students are more profitable in these economic times.

I'll be going to Jewel & Esk College instead this year to study 3D animation. Is Abertay's reputation as a Video Game Course Giant true?
I may look into applying next year if so.
Starting on a Design for Games course at Plymouth College of Art, starting on 20th September.
I myself too am off to UCLAN Preston after failing miserably to get in last year and I will (as I'm now in no matter what) be studying Contemporary Theater and Performance.
Which in reality translates as running around stage with a plant pot on your head and making it look intellectual.
Starting at Sheffield Hallam to do multimedia technology, still waiting to hear back from accommodation though.

Aye ditto, I had to do all my applications internally with UCLAN and they only started them in June and I didn't get my accommodation latter till the 8th this month. I did it online and I'm still waiting. It wouldnt matter if they sent me a letter saying 'NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOO' but need to know so I'm not faffing around last minute to get in some place.

I applied ages ago for accommodation at UCLAN (in about February), only got my offer through about 3 days ago. Keep in mind you have to pay a £250 deposit within a couple of days of getting your offer. I'm in Whitendale Hall Flat 52 :)
I had a look at UCLAN. They were so desperate for film students it was sad.
"We don't have that much money at the moment, but if a lot of people apply, we'll get more!"
Got into Queens College in NY, start the 27th of August.

Well If I don't get some awnsers I'll be staying in Cardboard Box 13.
Unless I drop my pants an get back into my kicking down doors and smashing heads in for awnsers mode.
Which is looking slowly more and more like a viable option.
