Armed with artificially intelligent "exponential thermostellar bombs", the scout ship Dark Star and its crew have been in space alone for twenty years on a mission to destroy "unstable planets" which might threaten future colonization. The ship's crew consists of Lt. Doolittle , Sgt. Pinback, Boiler and Talby. Commander Powell, their superior officer, was killed by a faulty rear seat panel, but remains on board the ship in a state of cryogenic suspension. The crew perform their jobs in a state of abject boredom as the tedium of their task has driven them around the bend, with only each other and the softly-spoken ship's computer for company. They have attempted to create distractions for themselves Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Star_%28film%29 IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069945/ Trailer:
is this serious, or ? because looking at the poster for all i know it could be a comedy.
from what the wiki says it sounds like a straight-faced comedic parody/satire film the reference to dr. strangelove on the poster seems to back this up ([sp]at one point it involves a philosophical discussion between one of the humans and one of the bombs[/sp]) ^ minor irrelevant plot detail that gives you a hint as to what kind of tone the movie seems to have I'll have to check it out OP it sounds interesting
One of John Carpenters first major films and one of my favorites. Its pretty dated but give it a watch if you can find it, seeing the first works from people who are now big name directors is always interesting.
