LONDON (Reuters) - Britain will not invite Argentine President Cristina Fernandez to Margaret Thatcher's funeral next week in a snub likely to deepen a long-running diplomatic dispute over the Falkland Islands. Thatcher, 87, who died on Monday, led Britain at the time of the 1982 Falklands war ordering her armed forces to repel an Argentine invasion of the contested South Atlantic archipelago which Argentina calls Las Malvinas. Just over 30 years later, memories of the conflict remain raw and Fernandez has mounted a campaign to renegotiate the islands' sovereignty, lobbying Pope Francis on the issue and rejecting a referendum last month in which Falkland residents voted to remain a British Overseas Territory. A government source told Reuters that every country with whom Britain enjoys "normal" diplomatic relations was being invited to Wednesday's funeral, but Thatcher's family had objected to Fernandez attending. "It's about adhering to her family's wishes," the source said. A government spokesman said Argentina's ambassador to Britain would be invited, and that was in keeping with protocol. The Daily Telegraph newspaper, without citing its sources, reported that Thatcher's children Mark and Carol said they felt it would be "inappropriate" for anyone from Argentina to be there after government officials floated the idea.
http://news.yahoo.com/britain-snubs-argentina-over-margaret-thatcher-funeral-092537571.html

Typical example of the Great Britain's refusal to abandon imperialistic dogma in a post-colonial world
Great, now everyone is going to ignore the Thatchers and claim that it was another provocative act of the UK. Fu-cking great.
Who would want to attend her funeral anyway? The only thing the Argentine president should be upset about is not being able to dance on her grave with everyone else.
You are such a wonderful human being.
but... she's evil.
You mean you read somewhere that she did something bad and now you're pretending to be cool and edgy.
You mean you read somewhere that she did something bad and now you're pretending to be cool and edgy.
She gave orders that lead to battleships being sunk and tons of argentinian teen-aged soldiers being killed it'd be odd of the prez was at her funeral specially with all the "the malvinas are argentinian!!!" shit she's been doing lately to avoid economic/social/goddamn fucking flood issues

HE sent poorly-equipped, motivated and trained conscripts to retake a bunch of frozen islands just to stay in power.

Bloody hell chaps haven't we had this same argument in every damn Thatcher thread this week? Now all the economic gripes have been debunked with varying levels of success we're really clutching at straws now.

And clutching at straws? Okay, fine. I guess apart from the economics, Iron Lady was all right. Though it'd be really embarrassing, for example, if she embraced a bloody dictator (and nice fellow neoliberal and miltonite) like Pinochet and just happened to have called him a great democrat on tape and also just so happened to have vouched for him when indicted for crimes and also just happened to be a great personal friend of his. And I'm sure she was totally OK with a certain Nelson M. and never called him a terrorist. Ha ha, she was totally alright and I'm sure that she would never do -- oh wait no she was a massive cunt and horrible person how surprising.
Except Nelson Mandela did, in fact, support the use of terrorism in South Africa, so he can indeed be called a terrorist. Of course, that's a part of his life schools like to leave out when talking about him during Black History Month.

Thatcher was just ending it.

For example the radar located there helped British forces combat Argentine bombing raids - in just one day that it was out of action 2 ships were sunk and 54 British servicemen died. Pinochet also installed a democratic president in 1990, hence her comment. And Nelson Mandela was associated with and advocated terrorist activities - interestingly the last Prime Minister of the Apartheid regime credited Margaret Thatcher as being the most influential leader in dismantling the regime.
Guys. She wasn't snubbed. This article is terrible. It's not a national occasion, so there is going to be no calling for national leaders - all the ambassadors will be invited, but nobody really has to bother.
lol marie thatchie really sucked guys haha am i rite ?
Argentina's president has not been invited but the country's ambassador to Britain has - Downing Street says this is in keeping with diplomatic protocol for such occasions.
George W Bush and George Bush Snr aren't coming either http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-22109759
Fuck Cristina anyway, she's the worst president we argentines had since the economic crisis fourteen years ago, probably earlier than that, even.
He is, check his Steam
Sore losers will be sore losers.
Every thatcher topic ever: people who weren't even alive/older than 5 during her term comment on whether or not she was a good/bad leader Don't really see the problem myself, I doubt she would have turned up, invited or not.
I'm Argentinian and I thought the whole war was stupid. Besides in History class the first thing they teach you is to hate the british.
