Turns out, it's fake!
By Associated Press, Updated: Thursday, December 8, 4:11 PM GENEVA — Gamers worried their actions on the virtual battlefield could land them at the Hague war crimes tribunal can relax. The International Committee of the Red Cross says media reports that it is investigating whether the Geneva Conventions apply to video games are false. The Swiss-based humanitarian group assured gamers Thursday that “serious violations of the laws of war can only be committed in real-life situations.” The ICRC says it is nevertheless interested in working with video game makers to promote a better understanding of international humanitarian law because some companies also develop war simulations for armed forces. The group also trains armies in how to abide by the rules of war that forbid targeting civilians, medics and captured combatants.
Source
THE Red Cross is investigating whether 600 million gamers are violating the Hague and Geneva conventions when they kill and blow stuff up for fun. Delegates at the 31st International Conference of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Red Crescent raised the concerns over the potential “International Humanitarian Law” violations – which can constitute war crimes - during a workshop in Geneva. “Exactly how video games influence individuals is a hotly debated topic, but for the first time, Movement partners discussed our role and responsibility to take action against violations of IHL in video games,” the Red Cross wrote in its daily bulletin. “While National Societies shared their experiences and opinions, there is clearly no simple answer. There is, however, an overall consensus and motivation to take action.” A spokesperson for ICRC Australia told news.com.au the workshop looked at how games “represented International Humanitarian Law”, which regulates the legal conduct of warfare. "The aim for the ICRC is that they send the right signals to their hundreds of millions of players by rewarding respect for IHL and penalising violations," the spokesperson said. The Red Cross said if it finds the conventions have been violated, they may ask game developers to conform to international laws or encourage governments to create laws that regulate the gaming industry, Kotaku reported. But international law professor at the University of New South Wales Anthony Billingsley told news.com.au the Red Cross risked trivialising the conventions of warfare. Mr Billingsley also said there is no way the conventions could apply to individuals because they were state-based. “There are concerns about the blurring of fantasy and reality,” he said. “There’s a danger of war becoming a spectator sport. People need to realise that this is real stuff.” The International Committee of the Red Cross is empowered by the Geneva Conventions to protect victims of international and domestic armed conflicts.
Source Wait what now
The sheer stupidity, it hurts.
fuck I'm going to jail.
Those poor pixels.
The simulated LIFE! Why would you do such a thing?! I know he was SCRIPTED TO POINT A GUN AT YOU BUT YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO SHOOT HIM SO MUCH.
fuck I'm going to jail.
I think after that "No Russian" mission in MW2, we all are going to the bellows.
Say good bye to my and 600 million other people's support, Red Cross.
GUYS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE PIXELS ARE SUFFERING
Shit. Right, pack your bags and begin the life of exile. If I see you in Nicaragua, the code word is Cumdrudgeon. I'd hate for the red cross to see my playtime in Defcon...
How about we make movie creators and actors war criminals as well, and let's not stop there, let anyone who has ever portrayed a pedophile or a rapist be classified as a sex-offender.

nofunallowed.jpg This has to be the most retarded, most stupid, most unexplainable thing in terms of stupidity going on right now. What are they even thinking? Its beyond me! It makes no sense at all! I'd laugh if this developed further and Red Cross actually tried to do something drastic to 600m people.
I should recieve the death penalty, atleast sixty times, for all I've done in video games.
The things they want to arrest you guys for are nothing compared to the jobs I pulled in Liberty City. I'm wanted in twenty-five states.
I mean who hasn't played a war game, found a guy laying on the ground and decided "Hey, it's better if I finish this." and popped him in the head. At least it's not real or dear god some shit would get flipped. I'm wanted in twenty-five states.
Yeah, if they want to talk about any game it should be GTA, but then they'll still live because most people who play these games are intelligent enough to realize "Hey, I can do this in a video game, but if I do this in real life I've bought myself a ticket to ass rape city."
Prisoner 1: What are you in for? Prisoner 2: Murdering my wife and molesting children. You? Prisoner 1: Playing video games.
I think after that "No Russian" mission in MW2, we all are going to the bellows.
I dunno, I think there were maybe five people who didn't pull the trigger (and didn't lie that they didn't)
Prisoner 1: What are you in for? Prisoner 2: Murdering my wife and molesting children. You? Prisoner 1: Playing video games.
I suppose that, if you somehow had a games console but no home, you could do some sick shit in-game, then get yourself sent to jail. You'll have three square meals a day, a roof over your head, and nobody will touch you because you killed ninety people and teabagged all the corpses.
If you watched stuff about afghanistan and/or iraq on the news, you're a war criminal!
oh god oh fuck were gonna be poor
guis r we going to jail now :<
So, wait, does this mean if I were really good at Halo I could become an Afghani warlord through intimidation alone? Whoah, the thing that I'm best at suddenly became my most prosporous career choice.
Fuck off red cross spend your time actually catching war criminals and not stopping people from having fun torturing people in games.
How about we make movie creators and actors war criminals as well, and let's not stop there, let anyone who has ever portrayed a pedophile or a rapist be classified as a sex-offender.
All actors should be punished for the crimes their played characters acted out in a movie. If a character they played in a movie killed someone, the actor must go to jail for homicide.
If they ask us about Postal 2, say it's a mailman simulator.
I've played No Russian.. ..... Fuck me
Are people really this dumb, or are they just saying this shit for publicity? If it's the former, I feel sorry for them; if it's the latter, then it isn't working very well. Why is it so hard to understand, what someone does in a game doesn't reflect what they will do outside the game (in terms of shooting people and such, if someone is being a dick in game chances are they will do so outside of said game). If someone is so disillusioned that they think a game is real, then they have bigger issues then said game being violent.
I think after that "No Russian" mission in MW2, we all are going to the bellows.
Do you mean the gallows? These are bellows: [t]http://i.imgur.com/6IR3U.png[/t]
Do you mean the gallows? These are bellows: [t]http://i.imgur.com/6IR3U.png[/t]
Used as an inventive "torture" device?
Ugh
