• Microsoft claims Linux 'at end of life cycle'
Linux will soon become obselete, Microsoft's Russian president has claimed. Nikolai Pryanishnikov was quoted in a CNews article, published on Thursday, that covered Russia's efforts to create a national Linux-based operating system. According to a Google translation of the open source publication's article, Pryanishnikov also said Microsoft "supports technological neutrality" and an operating system should be chosen for its economic efficiency, safety and practicality, not for "ideological considerations". Pryanishnikov said it would not be effective to "create an analogue of the existing OS, which will take huge amounts of money and time". "We must bear in mind that Linux is not a Russian OS and, moreover, is at the end of its life cycle," he added. Noted open source advocate Glyn Moody wrote in a Thursday blog post that this comment was "rather rich" as Microsoft was losing market share while Linux becomes increasingly popular. "I'd wager that variants of Linux will be around rather longer than Windows," he wrote.
Source
Linux takes 200 lines of code to increase performance Windows takes 2 years and $400 Linux is going to die soon
Microsoft also thinks designing an OS by committee where literally no one can actively criticize a feature is actually productive, and then are baffled when everyone hates it and it's bloated and inefficient. Bobby Kotick literally believes you were put on planet earth to suck his dick and pay his salary. This is all fud. Russia just mandated that all government PC concerns be weaned off M$, and they're butthurt about it.
Probably going to get rated a million boxes and this post will end up in the computer illiteracy thread, but i stand up for my beliefs. I agree with Microsoft.
I wonder when you'll stop telling us what to believe, Microsoft.
:wtc:
Damn, sure explains why I have 5 computers in my house running Linux and 2 running Windows.
Fuck off Microsoft dissin Linux
I don't think Linux is going to die, other people use it. Mobile phones do, satnavs and games consoles. Who knows.
Damn, sure explains why I have 5 computers in my house running Linux and 2 running Windows.
Because their low powered computers that cant run windows?
Because a windows server will always beat a linux server in every single way, ever.
Probably going to get rated a million boxes and this post will end up in the computer illiteracy thread, but i stand up for my beliefs. I agree with Microsoft.
I know you probably can't but back that up with some facts.
Oh, okay. What about the hundreds of thousands of servers worldwide running linux? Even my fucking digital TV decoder runs linux.
Oh, okay. What about the hundreds of thousands of servers worldwide running linux? Even my fucking digital TV decoder runs linux.
Once they realize how much they need the extra features of a windows server they'll spend the money and upgrade!
Sorry Microsoft, I can't hear you over the sound of my Linux OS upgrading to the latest version for free!
Because their low powered computers that cant run windows?
E6600 and 1GB of RAM is enough to run Windows 7, I know, I've tried. But Windows is just bloody useless for what I wanted to do with it. And Windows XP ran nicely on a Pentium 4 with 512MB of RAM. But again, I had no use for Windows.
What a crock of bullshit, if compatability with DirectX based games wasnt a problem, I would drop my fucking partition and shove Arch on right this minute.
I know you probably can't but back that up with some facts.
Server hosting is from what I understand the only thing linux does better than Windows and don't say "But it's leds restrictive" because I have never felt restricted from doing anything in windows :colbert: In my OPINION Windows > Linux :colbert: This won't end well...
Erm, Linux does more while using less system resources, not to mention I realy like the boot times. More power available for the programs running is a very good thing.
My computer isn't shit. It can afford to run some programs in the background.
Probably going to get rated a million boxes and this post will end up in the computer illiteracy thread, but i stand up for my beliefs. I agree with Microsoft.
oh look, it's the attention seeking child again
Erm, Linux does more while using less system resources, not to mention I realy like the boot times. More power available for the programs running is a very good thing.
Though it's no use when there's nothing to run
Though it's no use when there's nothing to run
Yeah that too. There are no games so what are you gonna use all that extra processing power for?
Raytracing.
The only reason Microsoft is on top is because they fucked over a lot of smaller companies and are abusing their monopolly. Linux is superior in a lot of ways, the only problem with it is sound and not much vendor support imo.
E6600 and 1GB of RAM is enough to run Windows 7, I know, I've tried. But Windows is just bloody Gross looking because of my x300. And XP ran nicely on a Athlon with 256MB of RAM. But again, it also had a crappy video card. Those are also 2 out of my top 3 computers:smith:
Yes, if they had never done the whole "dropping support for OpenGL" scare, I doubt windows would have came out top.
Raytracing.
I don't do 3D images, so I do not need those functions.
The people I hate are those who keeps throwing this phrase at me: "Oh, look, I'm using ubuntu, I'm so edgy and cool, and I'm soooo good at this because I can make the sound work. Did I tell you how hard it is to mess with ubuntu?..." Shit, I don't give a FLYING FUCK. It's just like gay people. There are the ones which prefer to keep it to themselves and the ones whose keep rubbing their gayness over your face. Do you like linux? Fine, cool, I respect that. I wouldn't.
well, GIMP should run faster so you can draw furry porn more efficiently.
