[release]We petition the Obama administration to: Actually take these petitions seriously instead of just using them as an excuse to pretend you are listening Although the ability to submit petitions directly to the White House is a noble and welcome new feature of the current administration, the first round of responses makes blatantly clear the White House intends to just support its current stances and explain them with responses everyone who has done any research already knows. An online petition is not meant as a replacement for using a search box in a web browser. We the People, those who grant you the power to govern in the first place, are requesting changes in policy directly, circumventing legislators who already do not listen to us. We the People request you govern FOR us, which means actually listening to us and actually acting in our interests instead of special interests. You are not above us. You ARE us. Govern accordingly.[/release] The Petition I really want this to pass just to see their response.
One of two things will happen: 1) It'll mysteriously disappear 2) No one will vote for it because it isn't about weed or some guys mistrial or w/e
It already has over 2,000 votes
You are not above us. You ARE us. Govern accordingly.
Best thing I've read in a long time.
They aren't gonna do shit.
After they dismiss this, someone should start a White House Petition to Take Petitions About Taking White House Petitions Seriously Seriously.
And the weed petition had over 20,000 in a day The government isn't going to take their own site seriously, making an internet petition isn't going to change that.
It was 20,000 in a week, not a day. It was over 5,000 in a day.
if the government does respond to this I'm sure it will be "No" but with a long bullshit explanation why
After they dismiss this, someone should start a White House Petition to Take Petitions About Taking White House Petitions Seriously Seriously.
yo dawg i herd you leik petitions
And the weed petition had over 20,000 in a day The government isn't going to take their own site seriously, making an internet petition isn't going to change that.
Don't be such a negaton.
An online petition is not meant as a replacement for using a search box in a web browser
An online petition is just the bastardized version of a physical petition, for people too lazy to go out and try and inspire some real change. That's why people always say online petitions don't fucking work. People should just be fucking glad that they actually seem to be responding to some of these.
Hahaha. These things can happen only in the US. (User was banned for this post ("trolling" - GunFox))
Tree of liberty, blood of tyrants etc. You guys really need to just go into the Congress with guns while they're in session and replace the fuckers with smart people.
People should just be fucking glad that they actually seem to be responding to some of these.
they made the site themselves, and you say that we are glad they are actually "responding"?
Tree of liberty, blood of tyrants etc. You guys really need to just go into the Congress with guns while they're in session and replace the fuckers with smart people.
Yeah because we can just do that
Yeah, it looks like all the petitions that got significant amounts of support were completely shut down and ignored. Nice.
Yeah because we can just do that
Well have you tried?
they made the site themselves, and you say that we are glad they are actually "responding"?
Did you actually expect the Obama Administration to use this site to do anything else other than support their own points? Did you honestly expect they would use it to dictate their policies? I'm just amazed people are surprised that it seems this site would make an actual difference. At least now when people want to complain about the Administration's position on certain points, they have these nice responses to point to.
Yeah, it looks like all the petitions that got significant amounts of support were completely shut down and ignored. Nice.
not ignored, they gave canned responses though. [editline]29th October 2011[/editline]
Did you actually expect the Obama Administration to use this site to do anything else other than support their own points? I'm just amazed people are surprised that it seems this site would make an actual difference.
of course not, nobody fucking did, but thats besides the point
of course not, nobody fucking did, but thats besides the point
Then what are you really complaining about? You got responses to petitions. Nobody should have expected anything more than this and nobody should be complaining that the Administration isn't taking online petitions seriously. Petitions that anybody, anywhere could sign.
This is my favorite one: https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/!/petition/formally-acknowledge-extraterrestrial-presence-engaging-human-race-disclosure/wfYDlmlG
An online petition is just the bastardized version of a physical petition, for people too lazy to go out and try and inspire some real change.
Or maybe an online petition is the only way to collect signatures from an entire nation A physical one is only practical for individual municipalities
Or maybe an online petition is the only way to collect signatures from an entire nation A physical one is only practical for individual municipalities
Fair enough, but nobody should be surprised that the Government isn't using this site to make policy changes. This petition literally says that:
We the People, those who grant you the power to govern in the first place, are requesting changes in policy directly, circumventing legislators who already do not listen to us.
What the fuck? Why would they decide policy based on online petitions? You're right that online petitions allow for a broader range of signatures, but there's no real restrictions on how broad that scale is. I could sign one of these petitions and I'm not even from the States.
Tree of liberty, blood of tyrants etc. You guys really need to just go into the Congress with guns while they're in session and replace the fuckers with smart people.
The two-party system would ensure that other, WORSE politicians would take their place.
I could sign one of these petitions and I'm not even from the States.
You need to register to sign them, so that would weed out at least some people who would want to just randomly sign things that don't affect them.
Just because the responses aren't 100% aligned with your views, doesn't mean the White House is not taking this seriously. Honestly, I am surprised at the level of detail in the responses, and it's disingenuous to suggest that some people in government do not take their job seriously.
it really pissed me off that they dismissed the marijuan petitions with the same old shit they've been saying since the beginning of time 'its bad lol trust us' i havent bothered to read any of the other responses, is that how they treated the others as well?
I can't wait until people finally lose their shit over the govt blowing off shit like this then hopefully we oust all the retards that don't need to be in positions of power.
it really pissed me off that they dismissed the marijuan petitions with the same old shit they've been saying since the beginning of time 'its bad lol trust us' i havent bothered to read any of the other responses, is that how they treated the others as well?
The whole thing was just a fake. They've responded to two petitions and denied them both.
Or maybe an online petition is the only way to collect signatures from an entire nation A physical one is only practical for individual municipalities
It can go beyond municipalities. My state senator just came to my door yesterday and asked me to sign a petition for his plan.
Yeah because we can just do that
The fuck do you think the Second Amendment was about?
