Holy shit though just try to imagine this. Try to imagine seeing a new color. Not a shade of a color you already know, a god damn new color. This guy must be blown the fuck away.

This shit makes me so happy.

That's not what it does though?
With the EnChroma lens, colors appear brighter and more saturated. People report that their color discrimination is faster and more accurate, they are able to see more vibrant colors. They are more likely to notice objects that are differentiated against a background based on color (such as a flower against background of leaves), whereas without the lens those objects would have been overlooked.
It doesn't fix your color vision like you had never been color blind to begin with. It just makes what you already can see brighter and more defined.

never before seen shades
This guy has a pretty good explanation about how the lenses work, starting from 10:17.

My understanding is it blocks out specific frequencies of light in such a way that people with deuteranopia form of colour blindless like myself are able to more or less see colours like reds and oranges and pinks, just not exactly as a regular person would. The colours they allow us to see ARE fairly accurate to what normal people see apparently.
Basically, colour blindness is our eyes not being able to deal with certain frequencies of light caused by certain colours so they just end up overlapping and blending together. These glasses block out some frequencies so that overlap isn't as severe and it aids in us seeing what we should be seeing. I'm really considering getting a pair

Or even brighter. Some of these people describe seeing greens and reds almost as if they're glowing under a blacklight.
Of course it might just seem that way to them because they've never seen the colors that well before. I kind of want to see what it would look like if someone took a photo through one these lenses using it as a filter.

Just watched that video and it seems I wasn't far off with my understanding, the glasses eliminate the overlap so colours show up a lot more vibrant and your brain can interpret them easier without getting confused. So a red shirt will be incredibly red and bright because there's no overlap from green. Definitely getting myself a pair of these
I kind of want to try the glasses because I'm RG-colorblind.
The world isn't that colorless for me... I think. Goddammit, I WANT TO TRY THEM!
but how????
Some people might suggest that science is to be blamed for this.
But it is more likely some kind of witchcraft.

It's incredible, I cannot imagine what it would be like to see a whole new colour or shade.

It sucks that they're so expensive. I wonder if something like health insurance would cover it maybe?

[sp]If you ever get some you have to make a video for Facepunch[/sp]
At the end, when he was looking at the flowers and kept taking the glasses off and putting them back on, that shit must have been mind blowing.
Gosh. I never really thought about how confusing it would be to be color blind. Videos like this make me very grateful that I don't have to deal with that, and I'm glad that things like these glasses exist to help that.
Ohh man his reaction is so strong, I've never gotten emotional over a Youtube video before.. Damn...
I wonder if one day, we can use this to view light which is non-visible to humans? Or would we need wholly new cones just to be able to see into the ultraviolet/ infrared spectrum?

Take the colourblindness test here and see if the glasses would help.

Well you could probably make glasses that translates frequencies of light TO the colors we already see, but we will not be able to distinguish them as new colors. For example, you could probably take the IR light and mix it with the red, so that we'd see IR as just red.

We are going to need a few mantis shrimps.

Took it. All I got out of it was a headache and this.
Mild deutans (“doo-tans”) have a mild form of red-green color blindness caused by an anomaly in the M-cone photopigment gene sequence.
Mild deutans usually respond very positively to the EnChroma lens. We believe there is a 95% chance that EnChroma glasses will help your color vision.
Now I'm crying.

I don't know why this guy has 12 disagrees.
No pair of glasses can give you a sense you don't have; rather these glasses aid in color discrimination by filtering out and boosting colors.

You could just be like "oh wow what a touching video good for him" instead, but, y'know.
It is cool, I've seen this technology before. An interesting way to tackle the problem.
my heart just shattered

you could always buy it and return it if it doesn't work
red and green are worth that kind of money, you should absolutely try to do it, even if they don't work and you return/refund, you can't say you didn't try., It does say it has a 50% chance of working after all.
also, for those without color blindness like me, here is a reference

he has the one on the bottom left
