What the fuck is pen spinning?
This:
Those are some of the best.
Pen spinning is a form of object manipulation that involves the deft manipulation of a writing instrument with one's hands. Although it is often considered a form of self-entertainment (usually in a school/office setting), multinational competitions and meetings are sometimes held. It is a form of contact juggling.
Pen spinning is generally awesome. You can impress other people, entertain yourself in class, start conversations, and, as long as you're not pretentious about it, look like a pretty chill guy. It also helps increase your coordination in general.
Why did you make this thread?
I've been doing it for about a year now, give or take a month, and I've gotten pretty good. Welp, when I got home this morning, my net was down so I decided to record a video and make a thread about pen spinning on Facepunch.
But how can I start? I don't have any gay pens lying around.
I'd suggest you start with an unsharpened pencil, or if you're feeling adventurous, go out and make a BICtory mod. It's a lightweight, easy to make mod which uses pens that are easily available to anybody, especially in the U.S.
The first trick I learned was the thumbaround, but these basic tricks can be learned in any order. I just found the thumbaround to be the easiest, while others find the fingerpass easier.. It's preference.
Don't be discouraged if you're having trouble, just remember that the key to success is practice, practice, and more practice. Muscle memory will eventually develop and you could do the tricks blind.
Thumbaround
Fingerpass
Charge
Sonic
There's a few more basic tricks, but those are the ones that every beginner should start with.
Advanced Tricks
There's a lot more to pen spinning, and once you get the basic tricks down, you can move on to more impressive and fun tricks. Here's a few.
Double Charge
Shadow
Thumbaround Harmonic
And then there's a lot more. Visit http://www.upsb.info/ for one of the more popular pen spinning forums online.
:toot:
I can spin a pen around my thumb but alas that's all I can do. Then you try that shit in public and the pen flys across the room and you look like a pillock.
My friend is an expert pen spinner.

After you practice, you'll be able to do them reliably, and I wouldn't suggest doing anything crazy in public. You'll just look like an asshat, keep it simple and just do simple tricks for kicks when it actually makes sense.
I can do the thumbaround 100% every time with a well-balanced pen.
With my eyes closed.

Oh it's this thread again.
Been training for 2 years now, no progress.
I can do a fingerpass pretty quickly.

What trick are you trying to learn? You should be able to learn a thumbaround in a day or two, I've seen people learn it in less than an hour. Just watch the videos carefully, and it helps if you know someone in real life who can do it.
This is actually pretty neat.
i have done this before.
This is kinda getting old, and not impressive
kinda like yoyo
I swear there's one of these threads made every six months or something. And it never has enough contributors or regulars to justify a v2, so the thread sort of just fades into obscurity.

I dunno, seems kind of interesting, and is getting quite a bit of posts.

I think this is the first one that actually had the OP contribute a video, and I think if more users contribute then it'll become a lot more popular. I can also assist users who need help with any tricks, too, so that's good.
I'd be so much better at this if I didn't have shaky hands.
Yea, I've seen this type of thread a lot.
Wait, we already had a thread for this.
No matter how hard I try I can never do thumbarounds. :saddowns:
Your hands look like raw hamburgers. Thanks for the tutorial!
I am quite possitive i have read a thread about this before.
anyways, it died so letts keep this going.
i suck at pen spinning. :saddowns:
this was all the rage in japan
several years ago
Ugh, the dude in the first group of videos has fucked up thumbs
e: rather all of them now that i look at it
Your hands look like raw hamburgers. Thanks for the tutorial!
what
my hands are tan on the outside and white on the palms, probably because I run with my palms facing inwards and sometimes closed. now i'm going to run with my palms up thanks a lot
I can safely say I will never be able to do any of that
I assume those people often get overcome with accomplishment while they sit there fiddling with a pen, watching somebody graduate or something..
Is this how you pick up women?
This is very similar to that coin spinning trick, general hand tricks really. Always been interesting in them. I'd say anyone that likes to fiddle with their fingers would be interested in this. Actually moving out of your own way however to learn it I don't think many would.
Can't see my self taking this seriously that's for sure.
Is this how you pick up women?
Why do a lot of girls always try to connect these kind of things to relationships. It's so fucking annoying, holy shit. A lot of men like playing games, fiddling around. Especially nerds and hello, this is facepunch.
Such an ignorant thing to say. Pet peeve I guess.
Where is the pen?
:psyduck:
And I play drums so I can spin a drumstick pretty good between my fingers.
I used to do this. I was extreme.
EDIT: Wait no, Xtreme. There we go.

HARDCOREEE!
I just tried a thumbaround, couldn't even begin to get it working for the life of me. I'm not in the most comfortable position, and I have trouble with the initial flick & getting it balanced on my fingers right.
