S.E.A. Aquarium, the world’s biggest aquarium with more than 100,000 marine animals of over 800 species in 45 million liters of water, opened on Thursday.
The aquarium and Adventure Cove Waterpark are two new attractions of the Marine Life Park at Singapore's Resorts World Sentosa.
Among these are manta rays, hammerhead sharks and controversial Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins.
According to Singapore's Straits Times newspaper, animal rights activists have long been lobbying for the resort management to release the 25 wild dolphins captured for the resort.
Park officials defend the wild dolphins' inclusion.

"We hold the belief that zoological organizations have a role to play in wildlife conservation and that to avert species crises, controlled wildlife collections can occur for quality zoological facilities to increase our understanding of the species and for breeding purposes," says the resort in a series of detailed responses to critics on its website's FAQ page.
The aquarium comprises 49 habitats imitating different areas in Southeast Asia. The Open Ocean habitat will house the world’s largest viewing panel (36 meters wide and 8.3 meters high).
Diners in the Ocean Restaurant will share the unobstructed underwater view. It is said that the restaurant will provide sustainable seafood meals.

Marine Life Park will have two ticketed attractions that allow for wet or dry fun -- Adventure Cove Waterpark and the Southeast Asia Aquarium.
Adventure Cove Waterpark will feature Southeast Asia’s first hydromagnetic coaster, Riptide Rocket, a slide that propels riders up and down inclines and around sharp curves. The other attractions include the Bluwater Bay wave pool and a 620-meter meandering river through scenes of tropical jungles, grottos and a surround aquarium.
Visitors can also snorkel with fish in the Rainbow Reef or sign up for ray-feeding. Interaction programs with sharks and dolphins will be introduced next year.
Land area 8 ha (20 acres)
Number of animals 100,000[1]
Number of species More than 800[1]
Total volume of tanks 45,000,000 l (9,900,000 imp gal; 12,000,000 US gal)
I believe the conservation and awareness value of public Aquariums far outweighs the negative drawbacks of keeping thousands of animals in captivity. However, I do not support keeping Dolphins -or any cetacean for that matter- in in small holding tanks.
I too would like to scuba dive in there
I know where my next vacation will be.

And I know yet another place I'll never see.
This place would be an interesting place to see but I wish they didn't bring in dolphins. Fish and Crustaceans are OK for an aquarium but large mammals like Dolphins does not belong here.

In other words, we really, really wanted some dolphins. Here's some more words to distract you from that.

Not really. Based on the principles that animals other than humans cannot ponder life and that the hardcoded goal of existence is to preserve their species, human domestication is the greatest thing that can happen to them.
Those activists should be happy they're not like cattle.
Let's find nemo.
I'm going to apply work there. Also, 1 dolphin died while on the way there
I hope my first aquarium visit is there
I love fish

Smells between legs, yup.
I love Singapore. Been there a good 20+ times when in transit to other places. Feels like a second home almost. Always love the markets there. Even just walking around in pleasant because of how clean the streets area and how they put nice decorations in random places.

They are very much like cattle.
To capture a dolphin you have to herd them into a trap, and then break up their pods and hand select the "best" ones for aquariums. Or in the case of Taiji (which may not be the case with these particular dolphins) take the best, slaughter the rest. The ones that survive are then put into a small holding tank for transport by air. Dolphins are very social creatures. Being herded into a net, seeing their whole family get slaughtered, then being put into a small tank and a big plane is a very stressful and horrifying thing for them and they often don't survive. Certainly not the greatest thing that can happen to them.
These dolphins were taken from Subic Bay.
