Though it's practically impossible, I'd love to see the reaction of a large publisher if barely anyone pre-ordered.
You forgot "release a statement that blames it all on pirates"
"Oh yeah! It's all because of them damned pirates on PC." Not hard to see really. Forcing people to pay 60 bones for an incomplete product versus getting the complete product for free. It's not "choosing" to augment your pre order, you're "choosing"what you DONT want included.

What the hell happened to battlefield? Aside from being subpar gameplay wise, you're constantly being shook down for more money for 'battlefield premium' and arse dlc. They even replace the 'join game' button with 'buy dlc' so if you dont pay attention to prompt in the corner of the screen, you find yourself in front of a "Confirm Purchase?" dialogue box. I would gladly buy DLC or micro-transactions for a game (especially when I bought into it late) , but there's a difference between "aw hey man I worked really hard on this could you maybe throw me a little extra" and "fuck you give me more money"

I think I made mistake in my previous comment's wording, I honestly like expansions like WoW's or the the witcher 3 one they are really worth the price.
The thing about AAA games becoming more expensive is that for us PC gamers, it's not really an issue because if you don't feel like putting down 60 bucks for the newest Assassins Creedm you can just get like 10 solid indie games for the same amount of money. I'm wondering if the direction the gaming industry is going in will mean the fall of many AAA publishers, considering A: how going indie is becoming increasingly more of a viable options with platforms like Steam and the downfall of retail stores in favour of digital distribution and B: large marketing campaigns becoming less effective, and more and more companies are starting to make use of youtube, twitch and social medias to market their games at a much cheaper expense.

Which is honestly a bullshit tactic thats spawned out of nothing but greed. Fallout 4's steam page was a good example, but it seems they've listened to the complaints and corrected the price.
With the exception to CE's that contain physical items you might want, what is the fucking point of pre-ordering. PLEASE tell me. There isn't one. EVERYONE knows there isn't one, even the publishers and game developers. That's why they have to try and put some extra (Cut) content to spice up the deal, because there's no fucking reason to put $60 up front months before launch for something that there will be infinite copies of. None. On top of this you have dishonest and staged 'demos' of the game which turn out to be bait and switches more and more often, or CGI that mean nothing. A CGI Trailer for a game doesn't. Mean. SHIT. It isn't representative of the game at all in any way. Then there's also review embargoes that get slapped on the games until post launch. And in the case of Nintendo they'll even take down youtube videos of the games The industry is as dishonest as it gets, time and time again these companies show us, and time and time again people say sure here's my $60 for your game next quarter. Fucking idiots
I wish they brought back physical items like figures and posters and such for pre-order bonuses instead of an exclusive skin this or an exclusive mission that

Soundtrack, concept art, a keychain or something small, they are all nice pre-order stuff.
I want Day One editions to go away, they ruin the box art.
Forcing people to pay 60 bones for an incomplete product versus getting the complete product for free.
So they're literally charging an arm and a leg now?
I miss the days when I didn't feel like AAA companies stared at me like some source of income waiting to be cracked open and bled dry.
It is kind of hard to say now, I mean of course never pre-order games from untrustworthy companies like EA or Ubisoft but the whole fiasco with Arkham was kind of left field. Pretty much what I've gone off of: If they aint offering any coolshit physical goodies, there's no reason to. [editline]8th September 2015[/editline] If you're a dev and you're making the decision to have digital content exclusive to pre-orderers only like say: "Get these bonus character missions only if you pre-order!" fuck off. That's the completely wrong way to go about it.

i haven't preordered any games for several years now, and i dont regret a single moment of it there are some early alphas that i did buy into that failed, which is also a cancer on the industry though

I think it's a European exclusive, but preordering Bloodborne would net you a soundtrack CD, a notebook, an artbook, tins, a summoning bell replica, and a fucking quill set. US just gets a Messenger skin and a digital OST voucher. I only pre-order games that look promising and are made by developers i know of. It's been going so far pretty good. And yea Deus ex has just become a milking cow for square enix. Sort of like battlefield is for EA.

And that's just the first four games that came to my mind fiting this criterion.
I only preorder from developers I trust. If it fucks up, thats on me, and I won't make that mistake again.
I only preorder from developers I trust. If it fucks up, thats on me, and I won't make that mistake again.
That's why my only two biggest pre-orders were for Bioshock Infinite, and maybe Fallout 4 (if I can run it on my computer), because I trust the devs to make a quality product, and maybe throw in some awesome swag. Pre-Order Swag is also important, would you rather have something like this? [t]http://www.thesixthaxis.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/1014183101.jpg[/t] A replica of the maguffin from the game's main plot, poker chips from the ingame casinos, a deck of cards with the characters from the game within, AND A FREE GRAPHIC NOVEL that serves as the prelude to the main plot of the game? Or some scruffy ingame items that let you ignore the learning curve?
Personally I'm done with "pre-order swag". I don't want plastic figurines or graphic novels or steelbook cases or posters or any of that shit. I want the game.
