With a transparent central window and the eye-catching yellow blooms of wattle, the note is a departure from the more muted current design. "Each banknote in the new series will depict a different species of Australian wattle and a native bird within a number of the elements. On the $5 banknote, these are the Prickly Moses wattle (Acacia verticillata subsp. ovoidea) and the Eastern Spinebill (Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris)," reads a description on the Reserve Bank of Australia's website.
Looks bad. Current $5 is fine
I don't mind it actually, the images of it showing the transparency is actually nice. Is it more the colouring on the left people are worried about? Although I still would have preferred something like this.
Looks pretty bad to be honest. We should've taken some inspiration from Canadian or New Zealand notes, they both look much better.
I wonder what American dollars would look like if they went polymer
I wonder what American dollars would look like if they went polymer
i hope we can see that soon, to be honest. polymer money is so good
this is going to trip me up so much at work
We should've taken some inspiration from Canadian or New Zealand notes
Eh, really not any better. I'm sure the people who originally design this note must be crying about now, I am. This is total shit, who approved this? It looks like a primary school art project were you bring in a five dollar note and paint over it.
Eh, really not any better. lods of emone
The NZ notes stick to a very strong colour pallet. The Australian one is weirdly segmented with strong contrast and the weird yellow things and the grey portrait on the coloured background isn't appealing at all. [editline]12th April 2016[/editline] also me being from NZ doesn't mean I'm arguing this point purely because I'm bigoted to those fuckers across the ditch.
The worse it looks the more willing you are to depart with it. It's all very psychological. Seriously though it looks like money and in the end no one will give a shit about the design when it enters circulation. Hell the only difference to the old note is the blue band design going through it. It's probably the less drastic design change of a note I've seen.
You can't just remove the flamboyant as fuck pink note. It's part of the culture. First thing I thought when I read the title was "I bet it's not pink anymore" and you know what I was half right. Just put a real Aussie hero like Russel Coight on a pink note and call it a day. Or just don't do anything the note is fine.

Well I'm glad I'll still be able to turn Her Majesty into a dick-eating whale.
Why is America the only country with good physical currency?

it looks fucking terrible, idk who even thought it looked good [editline]13th April 2016[/editline] i get you can kinda easily counterfeit it but why not add more security measures instead of revamping the entire thing
Looks like a kid scribbled onto it
The wattles and the blue outlines of the wattles make me want to cry It reminds me of when I first started to use Photoshop Oh wait the blue is transparent lmao. Wattles still make me cry

wtf is wrong with countries with polymer cashola i mean it's a cool idea but why does literally -all- of it look like vaporwave money
Supposedly this isn't the only new design more are coming.
Why is America the only country with good physical currency?
Yeah nah America's physical currency is fucking garbage. Because they're all the same size and a uniform texture, blind people in America have to have someone else tell them what each of their notes is worth and then fold it in a specific way so they can tell it apart from the rest. With modern currency like ours, you can easily tell notes apart by feel. Because they're all similar colours they're more difficult to identify at a glance compared to multicoloured designs. And finally, because they're printed on paper they are fragile as all hell.
wtf is wrong with countries with polymer cashola i mean it's a cool idea but why does literally -all- of it look like vaporwave money
It's not so bad when you see it in person. You barely can even see the shiny holographic shit on Canadian money unless you purposefully hold it in the light.
