I need help making a build, im willing to spend 2200
What do you need? More specifically;
-OS
-Monitor
-Keyboard&Mouse
-Headset
-Speakers
Do you know how to overclock?
Out of those, I only need the OS. And i do not know how to overclock
Would you be willing to learn (yes it makes a difference in my selection).
And what matters most to you:
-In-Game performance
-Loading times
-General PC speed
-Audibility

Hot damn. That's a nice build alright.

Also get some arctic silver 5.

Get this for your HD5970.

You hit your budget, have 2 powerful coolers, and you can OC to 4ghz on your CPU, and 950mhz/1250mhz on your GPU. XFX has a lifetime warranty covered by overclocking as well (Black Edition Hd5970), and everything else has a 3-year I think.
nice tyvm
Mind if I steal $5 out of your $2,200 for killing floor on steam? :v:
*worth a shot*
dont got a paypal man sorry
Ah well, thanks anyways. Have fun :v:
thanks a ton for the build though
No problem. Just remember to learn to overclock. Also, I'm serious about those two coolers I posted. They WILL help.
As well as that Arctic Silver 5. Thermal Compound is a good thing to have!
Also, the case is 30lbs. It's a full-size ATX, so be careful.
As for the SSD, it's fast, but you'll have to go through about 30minutes of optimization and setting it up It's well-worth it though.
And remember me if you ever find some paypal monies.
Shadow, put in a Samsung F3 Spinpoint instead. Also, the hexacores are not better than the quadcores in gaming. No games really even use more than 4 cores, yet alone 3.

Your build is very good. But OP I would suggest that you only spend $1200-1500 and save the rest for future upgrades. Doing that will extend your dollar bill and prolong the life of your computer actually.
It's pointless getting an Phenom II X6 when for less/same you could get an i5 750 which performs better than the 1055t.
WD Caviar is slower than a Samsung Spinpoint f3.
I don't know much in the way of drives, but as (I hope) you can see, I chose the CVBLK as a storage drive..his SSD is the main drive.
Also, the Phenom II x6 1050t will kick the core i5's ass in any sort of computing and applications, and the Phenom II xx4-965 and i7-920/i7-870/i5-750 often tie eachother in games (the GPU becomes the bottleneck).
AAAAAAAAND this machine should last him 3 years, and the developers may finally realize that software needs to go parallel. 6 cores just might be useful yet!

Agreed.

6cores anda 5970 last for 3years? I cant imagine the power there will be in 3years time that will make the 5970 look like a mid ranged card. This is why I only go for mainstream rather than the best of the best so I save money and I can easily upgrade cpu/gpu/ram in few year gaps.
He has room to upgrade to a trifire setup with another HD5870 ROG MATRIX which would add another 40% performance increase or so.
Actually I forgot, Southern Islands is coming out this fall, but what the tech world is waiting for is Northern Islands. AMD is skipping 32nm and leapfrogging into 28nm, and they're switching from TSMC to Global Foundries. The 7XXX series will be impressive. Can't wait for a 7770.
But NI should be out H2-2011...so maybe a good year or two.
Just wondering, what's the point of getting the 30gb SSD? To boot up your os system on it?
/Computer newbie
2200 dollars and NO core i7 9 series? really?
With that SSD, having a faster mechanical drive is dumb, the caiver is fine.
EDIT:
Basically, yeah, your OS and apps that you use a lot. SSD's are hella fast.
Yes. Your computer moves insanely faster when the OS is on an SSD. You can also put a few games on there, whatever you feel like making load extremely fast.
[editline]02:06PM[/editline]
Also, why should I spend more for 9GB of triple-channel RAM and an x58 motherboard? The Phenom II and nehalem compete with eachother on the gaming basis, and the 6-core phenom is better for productivity.
[editline]y[/editline]
Yes I talk about this like it's my money.
Yeh but i7s perform better in games, i agree getting an i7 for someone like you is the better option, i don't mean the lowend 1156 i7s i mean a 920 or something.
SSDs are awesome.
Caviars are not fine when for the same amount/less you can get a Spinpoint f3
i7s and phenom IIs (965 and 955) compete with eachother in games. Think of it like this.
My CPU-limited HD5850 gives me 100 FPS in CS:S. I upgrade to an i7-920, I get 250FPS. But then I choose to go to a phenom II 965. I get 230FPS. Since the FPS is well above the monitor's refresh rate (60hz), it doesn't matter.
Now;
My GPU-limited HD5850 gets 40FPS in Crysis. I upgrade to an i7-920, and I get 45FPS. I decide to use a phenom II 965, I get 44FPS.
The 8 or 12 cores on a core i7 9XX wouldn't be as good for productivity? For gaming, the thuban doesn't quite catch up to my 3.8 pII 965, which itself is only slightly better than a core i7 920. Also that 5970 is unnecessary unless he needs to play the latest games at 2560 x 1600.
EDIT
If he's paying 2200 anyways, why not get him those 4 or 5 frames. (I wouldn't apply this to myself, but its not my money)
besides, with bulldozer next year, he'd need a new board for amd to get it.
The 5970 doesn't max Crysis with AA, nor can it max Metro 2033.
Also, the Phenom II 1090T, which is just a 1050T with a higher clock rate, does indeed beat the i7-920 on productivity.
