Two of those aboard suffered minor injuries. The surreal crash along the Wisconsin-Minnesota border left one plane totally destroyed, forcing its pilot to eject to safety. The other plane was eventually able to land. Both planes were owned by Skydive Superior.
Holy shit, those guys had crazy luck to survive that sort of accident.
thank god there were skydivers aboard and not fat people
how do you accidentally crash two planes together
how do you accidentally crash two planes together
It was actually part of an extreme dare
Lucky they all had parachutes... Just in case they needed them.
[del]God works in mysterious ways...[/del] Holy shit, that was lucky... and only 2 people were harmed... I'm no physicist, but this has to be a 1/1000 chance...
thank god there were skydivers aboard and not fat people
lamo epic post dude!!
thank god there were skydivers aboard and not fat people
Ya, wouldn't want another Hiroshima
It was actually part of an extreme dare
They were probably trying to recreate this. [img_thumb]http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/194oxzm2pamaogif/k-bigpic.gif[/img_thumb]
Trying to imagine the situation inside one of those planes after they crashed into eachother. 'Oh man we're gonna crash say ur prayers gu... oh wait we have parachutes HAH!'
how do you accidentally crash two planes together
Airspace is way more dangerous than you might believe
how do you accidentally crash two planes together
By fucking up Shit happens
how do you accidentally crash two planes together
I'm guessing they were pulling some kind of stunt involving the two planes being very close to one another.
(Breaking Bad Spoiler) bit.ly/184JLDg
Damn, I'm imagining them parachuting while there is a huge fireball behind them and plane debris falling all around them. basically the beginning of SR3
how do you accidentally crash two planes together
A SERIOUSLY extreme game of Chicken.
I'm surprised the pilots had parachutes, good thing the one in the destroyed plane was able to bail out.
This is like the best possible scenario for a mid-air collision
That's a spectacular fucking miracle! Why yes, you are.
Airspace is way more dangerous than you might believe
that's why there is air traffic control and iirc all pilots are supposed to know the location and heading of other planes that are around them.
that's why there is air traffic control and iirc all pilots are supposed to know the location and heading of other planes that are around them.
I've spent a lot of time flying smaller Cessna airplanes and sometimes it's a lot harder to keep track of the trajectory of all the airplanes around you. Vigilance is key, I have been involved in more than a few close calls between aircraft being too close to each other. Sometimes you just don't know if some idiot is ascending right underneath you or some shit and you don't realize you are that close to disaster until you actually use your eyes and look beneath you. These guys obviously were affiliated with one another. I'm just trying to say that mid air collisions are a very real possibility and you always have to be aware.
i remember watching one of those history channel dogfights shows, and it was a torpedo bomber vs like 6 zeros, and the torpedo bomber because it had to withstand outragous g-forces in its operations, was able to just slice the wings off of the zero as well as out turn them thank god everyone had parachutes lol
Thank god for those parachutes, otherwise they would've ended up on The Island
Lucky bastards. I remember reading a similar article about a different incident and nobody survived.
Just to add from my own experience as well, a lot of the time people don't talk where they should. One near miss I had while I was getting my single engine flight instructor certificate (it happened then of all places) I was flying very low and demonstrating how to fly a circle around a point on the ground and then suddenly this other airplane rips right past us (im guessing within 500 feet) and he/she was not talking on the practice area frequency. Another time at an uncontrolled airfield, I was riding in the back of a light twin with another instructor and student in the front. They were making the normal callouts to report where they are in the traffic pattern around the airport, but there was a foreign guy in a cessna in the area who was barely talking on the radio at all, and probably knew very little english (this is near San Bernardino, CA btw). As that cessna was landing we made a go-around because the runway wouldnt have been clear by the time we would touch down. The instructor, jokingly said "I hope he isn't climbing up into us right now" and the student banked the plane slightly and looked down, then he said "actualy he is!" and we had to turn away to avoid a collision. Unless they were on frequency with a controller, or flying together and maintaining visual contact or making frequent position reports (they probably were not doing this enough) they would not have collided.
Flying a plane and not running into things isn't all that easy. When I was still in training, I was on my final, then about 200 feet from touchdown another cesna who wasn't listening to the radio or making calls tried to take off and almost knocked into us. On a cloudy day, I almost had a cesna without his lights on crash into me in the pattern around an airfield because he wasn't making calls.
This is like the best possible scenario for a mid-air collision
Unless it was two blimps full of skydivers
