When creating the Batmobile of “Batman Begins” (and the rest of the Christopher Nolan Batman movie universe), it’s clear that designers aimed for plausibility—a vehicle that wouldn’t just cause a viewer’s inner fanboy to run around screaming, but one that fit amongst the high tech military toys of Wayne Industries.
Resembling more a streamlined tank than a Lamborghini, the latest Batmobile always looked like it could roll right out of a secret army operation. More so than any conveyance Batman has manned over the years, Nolan’s Batmobile is an actual means of defense rather than a flashy piece of vigilante flair.
The Future Projects Vehicles department of BAE Systems (a company that, like the fictional Wayne enterprises, develops defense technology) based its latest tank design on Batman’s fan-titillating whip.
Part of seven proposals for new ground warfare devices (also including remote-controlled armed robots), “The Raider” is described as “a small, highly agile autonomous reconnaissance and attack vehicle which can carry a variety of payloads.”
It’s easy to say “the Raider” resembles the Batmobile in basic design, but as one journalist uncovered by voicing the comparison, this defense prototype’s likeness is more than just coincidence. As much was admitted by BAE Engineering Program Manager Hisham Awad:
“Glad you said that. That’s what we based it on…Yes, we liked the look of [the Batmobile], so we designed something similar… You see, it turns like a motorbike and it has the same wheel configuration.”
“In all seriousness, we decided that we didn’t have a monopoly on inspiration, and if we saw something in a film that we thought might be a good idea, why not take a look at it and see if there’s something practical we can develop?”
Why are all designs of new things three wheeled.
Why are all designs of new things three wheeled.
Potential for lots of stability, nothing wrong with three wheeled creations.
Except the fucking robin reliant.

It makes them feel safer and secure, like if they were children on a tricycle. :unsmith:
Looks like a vehicle from C&C Tiberian Sun.

that thing isn't small, that's a fucking browning M2
Are the things on the side of the M2 rocket launchers?

They're for launching smoke grenades.

Also it's not really a tank.
I don't know what you'd call it, but it's not a tank.

A USV I suppose.
That design looks fucking retarded.

unmanned IFV
That picture in the OP looks fucking badass!
Man.. I don't think aliens stand a chance at us whenever we come across some
That's the most futuristic military vehicle design that's actually being considered I've ever seen.
Why are all designs of new things three wheeled.
Saves 25% on wheel costs.
At least its not 1-wheeled lmao
Considering buying the British version of Top Gear, just because of that Robin Reliant clip.
Should I just start with Season 1?
The Batmobile looks much better than this design, this one looks terrible.
Batman first saw its tv show appearance on January 12, 1966.
The batmobile looks better than this shit
Frankly if I was a tank designer the first thing I'd design is a batman mobile. No brainer.
Looks like it could be knocked down easily, by driving on uneven terrain or taking a shell to the side.

top gear sheep
The 3-wheeled design is all good...
as long as it's the two wheels in front and one at the back.
That's the most futuristic military vehicle design that's actually being considered I've ever seen.
Really? I'd think it'd have ample competition from among other things, the stealth bombers, Comanche, and even the abrams.
I hope our military stuff starts looking like this. Then we just have to wait for Ion Cannons and we can rename our military forces Global Defense Initiative.
Reminds me of the Trike from Dune, only backwards.

The agility of a bike with the stability of a car.
Do notice that 2 wheels in the front and 1 in the back is the right way to do it, when turning the weight shifts to one of the wheels in the front, it also helps that the point of gravity seems to be low enough that it won't tip over at all.
If the Robin Reliant had switched it's wheels around and had a lower point of gravity it could actually have been a good car.

Doubt it, it's very low to the ground so the point of gravity is pretty much at wheel level, it probably has less chance of tipping over than a Humm-vee.
I think it looks pretty cool.
Original movie batmobile (not the 1966 one ofc) looks alot like a bunch of layered and stretched steel plates. Nothing elce really.
