it's missing castlevania 3
Would be one hell of a thing if they were to release a classic console that could run all their NES/SNES/N64/Gamecube games and i mean all of them, not the weak selection of games that they got on the Wii U store
it's missing castlevania 3
From what I've heard it's a little complicated to emulate that, though why I don't know. Regardless, I would have loved 2 be replaced with 3.
Now you're playing with power
Shiiiit
That's dirt cheap. I hope more games will come.
I'm curious as to how the interface will look
for 60 bucks?
Id still rather just hook up my own nes, or just use an emulator. It's a neat collectors thing however.
I hope they do a SNES one.
i'm surprised some people are complaining about price. for 30 actually good games, even if they costed $4 a pop + an actual console you'd still be looking at twice the price. for something that actually hooks up to modern tvs (im assuming hdmi,) it's pretty great.
Mario Bros 3 is usually $20 in good condition, $60 for all of them is a steal.

For $60 I'd rather buy a Raspberry Pi with all the fixings and a couple of controllers and install RetroPie, get every game in this list, and every game for every system up to and including Gen 5.

or use the very smartphone in your pocket.
This thing really is just a 60 dollar thing to sit on a shelf because its an official mini nes.
Any one who actually really cares about this probably already has a backlog of nes roms on emulators and really only wanna buy this to have it as a collectors item because it exists, not to play games with an hdmi output that's already been a thing for smartphones and emulators for years.

yes but you'd also be pirating those games which obviously nintendo doesn't want for several reasons. also, it's built for people who don't understand how to use a raspberry pi or the forementioned stuff (which may come easy to people like us, but don't to the general population, who easily get confused by terms like 4K and don't "have time to understand this kinda thing")
is there a cheaper way? yes, but is that way also more confusing and less streamlined? also yes. same reason geek squad or your average tech support do stuff for more than the grandson who's a "tech wizard" or whatever.

see this post. there is a huge market for streamlined and plug-and-play stuff like this, and you'd be surprised how many parents in their 50s would love this kinda thing, considering emulators and shit like that are basically black magic to them. it also is useful for 7-11 year olds who want to get into nes shit cause they saw avgn or something but don't want to "break their parents computer" cause they downloaded roms from a sketchy website. of course, we millenials can easily understand how to do this stuff on our own, but again, we're literally breaking the law by downloading roms, regardless how petty you think that might be. it's not just for the collector who wants nintendo stuff, it has it's fair use too.
of course, it's not the be-all end-all solution and it's not going to be hailed as the greatest invention by nintendo, but there is plenty of a market for this kinda thing. with the right marketing, i can see this being a big hit for nintendo.
besides, people like that nostalgic shit. nostalgia sells like hotcakes, see hot topics merchandise if you don't believe me.
Didn't Simon's Quest suffer from a shoddy translation? I wonder if they'll still use that.
I love the 80's look the ad has :v:
If only it had Contra to go with Super C. Though it still looks really nice.

Nintendo isn't really aiming for that demographic anyway. I have a NES here at home and I'm also big fan of emulation, but I still think it's a fantastic idea for those who don't want to deal ROMs and emulators (more people than you may think) and maybe they're not looking to pick up a NES console plus game cartridges for themselves. With this you have a little AIO plug and play unit, and that's what will attract a lot of people who just want to sit down and play some of the old games they remember. It's also a convenient starter solution for younger children who may be interested in trying out some well known NES classics.
I feel like I could get an earlier plug-n-play for much cheaper. I'm not gonna judge people for buying it though, sounds like a great collector's item.
nintendo falling behind the times again and making no mention of vr support such a shame
this would be a neat gift, not something i would purchase for myself.
for something that actually hooks up to modern tvs (im assuming hdmi,) it's pretty great.
IIRC HDMI is the only video output supported.
Is this gonna be harder to get than certain amiibos?

It's perfect for people like me who don't own an NES.

That's probably because Konami is Konami, I'm surprised they even let them put games on this TBH.
Never been into NES games but I'll look into getting one of these. If they make an SNES version I'll be all over that.

Also Mr Dream Punchout lol

I got it.
Waste of money.
I think a lot of people are misunderstanding the intent of this thing. It's not for your retro gaming fan who already collects stuff or knows about emulators and shit already. Chances are you've already got your bases covered. This thing is for 80s kids who are nostalgic for the games they played when they were younger but never actually got in to collecting them and might not even play video games anymore or find them too complicated. A lot of this group will also have kids who do play games and they would love to share the games they had as kids with them.
It's basically meant as a convenient, quick, cheap grab bag of NES classics as an easy way to relive the NES days without having to go out and get an NES and each individual game you want on ebay for probably more money. And all in HD.
I've been wondering for a long time why Nintendo hasn't done something like this because it'd be cheap as fuck but probably really profitable, and bam, here it is. And I'm excited for it! My family's going to get one and it means I won't have to collect all those games just yet to play them, in HD. Not to mention the new ones won't be yellowed, and are going to be less fragile than the 80s ones.
If you're a games preservationist like me this kind of thing should make you pretty happy. It's doing exactly that - preserving old and slowly getting harder to find games in a convenient format, readily available for modern day people to take a look at whenever they want. That's great. My only chagrins with this thing are that it doesn't seem to have any way to support more games so what you have is all we're going to get in this fashion, and also no Castlevania 3. Still, I look forward to them hopefully doing a SNES version.

i'd rather get 30 NES games in an easy to play format for far cheaper than all of them individually on the damn eShop, than spend $60 on the average triple-A game that usually I get far less mileage out of in the long term after i'm done with it
especially if people crack this baby open to more easily put in any other NES games

i'm more surprised about the lack of 4K textures, really Nintendo????
