When i Play Garrys mod it loads up and when its Creating the Render Targets it give me this error message: The exception Privileged instruction. (0xc0000096) occurred in the application at location 0x00010102. Can Anyone help me out with this Problem? Computer Specs: Processor Intel Atom 1.60 GHz Graphics Card Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family RAM 1GB Microsoft XP Home Edition
I'm assuming it's a netbook? If so, it won't run the game.
That computer is totally inadequate to run gmod. It sounds like you're trying to run it on a netbook, as furbrain said, which would never work in a million years.
Yeah, netbooks aren't for Gaming not unless you count flash games, as gaming
This will not run Gmod. This will.
My laptop has a Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset and when garry updated to the halflife 2 episode 2 engine it stopped running, you might have success with -dxlevel 80 but I don't think so. [editline]03:54PM[/editline] Actually my laptop has the same specs except for a 15" 16:9 screen and a 1.8ghz celeron (I think).
Thank you for all the comments and yes i do have a netbook! But i wasn't have a problem with half life and counter strike source at all. So i was just wondering why it didn't work for Garrys mod?
I NEED help my gm always been working now it just says creating render files for a long time and it never ends plz help
Half Life 2 and Counter Strike Source run on the Episode 1 engine, TF2 and Garry's Mod the Orangebox engine, and L4D an even more advanced version. Your not going to run it on Atom.
Source = Processor dependent, So.... a Intel Atom 1.6ghz isnt going to cut it. On the contrary, a 1.2ghz AMD Athlon Thunderbird will. Atoms are crap.
I just thought I'd try Gmod on my Lenovo S10 netbook (GMA945, Atom N270, 1GB, Win7) and much to my surprise it actually does run and quite well at that I might add (for a netbook anyways). Flatgrass and construct work, though construct lags on DX9, at DX8 it's easily playable and doesn't look that bad. I'm using DXlevel 8.0 and my settings are as follows: Model: Medium Texture: Medium Shader: Low Water: Simple Reflections Shadow: Low Color Correction: Enabled (grayed out) Antialiasing: None Filtering: Bilinear Vertical sync: Disabled and HDR: None Only problem is that it doesn't want to save the settings, I set it up, it works, but after restarting the settings are back at defaults. This is pretty much just an experiment but I may end up playing Gmod on my netbook during boring classes or something, I usually play on my big laptop. EDIT: Tried a bigger map (2fort) and it crashed after walking out the door (even though graphically it was playable). I blame the 1GB RAM, so I pulled a spare stick from my other laptop and am trying my netbook with 2GB (luckily 1GB was integrated, the slot free for a 1GB stick, Lenovo rules). Trying 2Fort again with the same settings now. EDIT: Still fails, also fails whenever I shoot an NPC (possibly the blood effect, other posts say similar things). One solution was to use -dxlevel 90 which I'm now trying. It isn't a graphics overloading issue (was on gm flatgrass with just one npc) so it must be an effect issue. I've just confirmed that using -dxlevel 90 fixes the npc-shooting crash, now testing 2fort to see if it crashes when I walk outside. If not, it must be that -dxlevel 80 (on any system) is incompatible with these, which is sad since -dxlevel 80 made it run better. 2fort works fine with -dxlevel 90 but lags. I think the problem with the lag lies in the fog (the fog doesn't exist in dxlevel 80) so if there's a way to disable the fog in a config that'd be awesome. EDIT again: I improved dx90 performance a ton by disabling some unnecessary (at least for a netbook) effects. Use these commands: fog_enable 0 fog_enable_water_fog 0 fog_enableskybox 0 mat_drawwater 0 mat_specular 0 r_dynamic 0 r_dynamiclighting 0 r_3dsky 0 With these, on dxlevel 90 and GM construct, it is playable yet the npc's don't crash the game.
mat_bumpmap 0 gives a good performance boost to older / inadequate GPUs, it disables normal maps.
Hi people My gmod crashes when a npc shoots me or i try to shoot or anyone tries to shoot. I hear windows error sound and it gets completely stuck. It's specs are: # Intel Pentium 4 3000MHz HT CPU # 512Mb DDR2 RAM # 80Gb SATA Hard Disk Drive # DVD&CDRW Combo drive # Onboard Video # Integrated Sound card # 8 x USB Port(4 in front for easy connection) I also had garry's mod non steam before and that worked. I it finished downloading from steam today. Gameplay is OK but NPC's and other shootings kill the game. Any ideas??? [editline]09:24PM[/editline] And yes i i payed for it!!! [editline]09:26PM[/editline] Also, I tried playing online aswell but that killed it too (User was permabanned for this post ("GMod non-steam" - Dragon))
First off: Warez is illegal on these forums so don't mention that you downloaded it or used it. Second: Garry's Mod help and support is here: http://www.facepunch.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16

It shouldn't create render targets when it starts up. Do you have a portalgun addon?
and L4D an even more advanced version. Your not going to run it on Atom.
OMG!WTF! I can run l4d on the same laptop and any hl2, cs and other games. But not Gmod
netbooks aren't for Gaming
Nope. I can run great games like Unreal (Unreal1 to Unreal Tournament 2004)

Great Processor for very low RAM and Hard Disk
